Introduction:
SWOT analysis (a brief understanding):
It is a tool that identifies the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of an organization. Specifically, SWOT is a basic, straightforward model that assesses what an organization can and cannot do as well as its potential opportunities and threats. The method of SWOT analysis is to take the information from an environmental analysis and separate it into internal (strengths and weaknesses) and external issues (opportunities and threats). Once this is completed, SWOT analysis determines what may assist the firm in accomplishing its objectives, and what obstacles must be overcome or minimized to achieve desired results.

TOWS Matrix (for better implementation of analyzed information in SWOT)

The Threats-Opportunities-Weaknesses-Strengths (TOWS) Matrix is an important matching tool that helps managers develops four types of strategies: SO Strategies (strength-opportunities), WO Strategies (weakness- opportunities), ST Strategies (strength-threats), and WT Strategies (weakness-threats).The most difficult part of TOWS matrix is to match internal and external factor. Once the objective has been identified, TOWS are discovered and listed. TOWS are defined precisely as follows: Strengths are attributes of the organization that are helpful to the achievement of the objective. Weaknesses are attributes of the organization that are harmful to the achievement of the objective. Opportunities are external conditions that are helpful to the achievement of the objective. Threats are external conditions that are harmful to the achievement of the objective. Strengths and weaknesses are internal factors. For example, strength could be your specialist marketing expertise. A weakness could be the lack of a new product.

A few lines on Engineering Education in Gwalior:

Someone rightly said, "A scientist dreams to make this world better and an Engineer makes that dream true. Engineering was started by human beings to make life comfortable. As the world developed, many important changes were seen in the field of engineering in India. Institutes like IITs, IIITs and NITs emerge from the group and started providing world class education and educational infrastructure to the talented student pools of India. Engineering education in Gwalior has seen tremendous growth over the past decade, both in number of students and number of colleges. The recent growth in engineering education has been overwhelmingly due to privately funded educational institutions rather than publicly funded ones. The actual current scenario of engineering education in Gwalior is a contrasting one. The place has international standard institute like IIITM and nationally recognized universities like Jiwaji University but there exist a large number of private engineering colleges which severely lack in providing quality education and the standard of both the faculty and students there is very skeptical.

Importance of IT implementation in Engineering Education:

Nowadays the role of Information Technology (IT), especially internet in the engineering education sector plays an important role, precisely in the process of empowering the technology into the educational activities. Engineering Education sector can be the most effective sector to anticipate and eliminate the negative impact of IT. Technology (internet) in another side can be the most effective way to increase the students knowledge. The followings are the aim and objectives of IT implementation in engineering education: 1. To implement the principle of life-long learning / education. 2. To increase a variety of educational services and medium / method. 3. To promote equal opportunities to obtain education and information. 4. To develop a system of collecting and disseminating educational information. 5. To promote technology literacy of all citizens, especially for students. 6. To develop distance education with national contents.

7. To promote the culture of learning at institute (development of learning skills, expansion of optional education, open source of education, etc.) 8. To support student in sharing experience and information with
colleagues.

Approaches Taken:
(To sort out these weaknesses and to accomplish the available opportunities) 1. Global Standardization of KMS: A. Provision of fully operational digital library (issue books using punch cards and reissue or reserve books using online library management portal, also the mail alert service for return date, availability of reserved books etc should be in place) B. Digitization of the regular lectures in the institutes, and distribution of those lectures time to time basis to facilitate them with the ready references. C. Provision of both online and offline e-learning resources (CD, DVD of globally recognized faculties, WBTs, Online quizzes etc.) to establish a global learning culture in the campus.

D. Organization of Seminars, Workshops in contemporary issues and storage of this valuable information for further usage and ready references in lectures.

2. Access control mechanism: A. Develop the Access control mechanism (both swipe card and online portal authority based access) for faculties as well as students. B. Online content management for establishing an effective knowledge base with proper access control. C. Focus on Process standardization for achieving less dependency on the individuals. Resources from faculties on various course topics / outer knowledge uploaded here can help students enormously while there are stiff schedule for completing the syllabus.

3. Provision of IT enabled resources to support regular lectures: A. Timely and accurate maintenance of IT/ICT resources needed for this above mentioned activity, which includes an up to date workstation in the classroom, perfectly working projector along with operational sound system. B. State of the art laboratories with all adequate hardware and software resources to support the students in implementing what they have learnt theoretically in the classroom. C. Support the R&D activities of the students / faculties with all adequate resources and that too not only in traditional way, rather on the need basis and the quality and future prospect of the outcome. Expectation of no discrimination in this case.

4. To fight against external threats posed by hacking:

A. Implementation and proper updation of antivirus and anti spyware applications. B. Touch base with the professional security consultancies to keep the institutional resources out of threats.

5. Bring an internal information sharing portal for all stakeholders: A. A professional approach to share data and information in a boundary less manner; come up with an internal portal for students, faculties, Admin staffs with their respective access privileges and constraints, a portal where all the actions take place. B. Take example from IT Corporate(s) like IBM, TCS, Cognizant etc. to simulate this concept in the education sector. C. Open Information sharing among the group institutes to better use the leverage of advancement of technology. (as example a harmony in interconnection among all IIITs)

6. Focus on contemporary learning: (in IT perspective) A. Emphasize on learning the IT tools and techniques which are currently in demand in the market or having future prospects. Learning of obsolete and trivial technologies will land the students nowhere except in the middle of sea at the time of placement. B. Think out of the box, promote entrepreneurships and enable students to venture into the new and upcoming fields of IT domain to take the best out of the industry returns.

7. Change with the Industry changes: A. Whatever big the institutes are, they should continue with a culture of a learning organization. They should b able to

quickly learn, adopt and implement the changes faced in the environment. B. Proper implementation of institutional rules and regulation which encourages innovation, both in terms of outcome and activity. Inject the moral that, failure is not fatal but a step towards getting success to every students associated with the institutes.

MPCT:

Conclusion: As per our observation: I. IIITM is equipped with quite a number of factors in IT perspective. However, this can be a glorious one if we only consider the national level. IIITM needs to reach some significant milestones to establish its name in the global standard which we have discussed above. ITM is aggressively seeking a position in providing quality education among top private universities in the country. So rather than thinking from the global aspect, they need to focus of the aspects that help meeting their goal, we only mentioned those to start with renovation of ITM For NRIITM and MPCT, they are lacking in terms of quality education as well as providing standard IT facilities to their students, they initially need to focus on these aspects to develop their IT competencies rather than think sky high at the very beginning. Finally, MITS should work hard in terms of rapid changes & contemporary education to retain and excel its pride what it gains through these long operational years. It should understand its potential to get the best out of the leverages and legacies linked with it.
