Research Associate/Post Doctoral Fellow National Research Council (NRC) of Canada, London, ON, N6G 4X8 Responsibilities and accomplishments:

March 2011 to Date

To conduct research and experiments as a part of a group to complete few projects within a specific time and to extend our horizon for future emerging technologies. Successfully completed projects with o KUGLER GmbH, Germany on micro manufacturing (milling) of some demonstration part which are considered to be unique in the world. We have successfully made very high aspect ratio structures (25m thin wall with 7mm height), blind holes (350m with 5mm length), array of pins (200m diameter with 6mm height) and micro lens array with average surface roughness less than 12nm.

Natural Resources of Canada (NRCan) on enhancement of solar cell performance by using optical light trapping elements on top of a PV cell. Contributed in designing and fabrication of such optical elements and we have improved the performance of a solar cell by 7.59% at NRC, London, ON. o Scisense Inc. in fabricating micro injection molding dies for bio-medical applications. o NRC-Boucherville in fabricating a micro fluidic die for mass production. A holographic insert was made with 1m pitch on aluminum covering the whole visible wavelength spectrum. This diffraction grating was made by mechanical diamond cutting and can be used for labeling or roll-to-roll fabrication for printable electronics applications. This sample is first of its kind in Canada. o

A micro fluidic die with 15m depth was fabricated on a thin flexible shim of brass (38m) using micro milling technique. Such sample is also produced first time in Canada at NRC which can also be used for printable electronics applications for roll-to-roll fabrication. Several optical parts were designed and fabricated for illumination optics and the applications are in automotive tail lamp lighting and/or to enhance lighting performances in buildings.

Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant Mechanical Engineering Department McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, L8S 4L7 Responsibilities and accomplishments:

September 2005 to February 2011

Defined industrial requirements and carried out intense research in enhancing the surface finish using single point diamond turning process in a Precitech 700G ultra-precision machining center. Engineering of aluminum alloy to refine microstructure by reducing grain size from 300m down to 300nm (approximately) to enhance machinability. A new Diamond cutting tool was design. Achieved average surface roughness less than 1nm (Ra= 0.72nm, without filtering) by turning process using developed engineered alloy and designed diamond tool. Communicate with industrial collaborators, identify issues, research and transfer technology to industries to enhance productivity. Demonstrated laboratory and took tutorial classes for undergraduate students of Mechanical Engineering department of McMaster University in several occasions.

Research Assistant Mechanical Engineering Department National University of Singapore Responsibilities and accomplishments:

July 2002 to March 2005

To study the effect of mist coolant in micro milling operation. Developed three dimensional analytical cutting force model and explained tool life criterion. Guide 2 (two) final year project student and 1 (one) B. Tech student with their project on Micro end milling.
