ow great it would be if all we wanted in life would come to us if we only had to wish for it. In the real world, it doesnt happen. We must remain diligent in our faith and believe in the Almighty that rewards those who work for what they need. In this terrible economic climate, we are still working on our plans for a new building for our Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (ANRC). What an exciting time of growth for us, and we need to have the facilities to accommodate that growth. The need is great, and we will continue our quest. We must keep moving forward for those needing our care. Progress is being made each month. We are at the stage now where we are asking for bids for the architectural design of the building. We had mentioned in the past issue that the Planning Board of the Town of Emerson had given us a preliminary approval. The next step is to have final plans to present to the State of New Jersey Health Department. We will shortly be announcing the start of a Capital Building Campaign to raise at least fifty percent of needed funds. There are currently several banks who are willing to lend us the balance of the required amount. Going forward for our Lord, for our community, for you! We ask you for your support when the campaign begins and invite all our members to come to our Annual Meeting on May 21, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the ANRC where sandwiches and refreshments will be served. he Dementia Care Practice recommendations for the residents who wander are the result of extensive research, literature, reviews and consultations with nationally recognized care experts. The practice recommendations focus on multiple care areas; one of them is DEMENTIA and WANDERING. Wandering is a term used to describe a person who moves around aimlessly. Many people think that wandering should be stopped but in fact, it is often purposeful and has a significant meaning to that individual. Wandering can be beneficial when it provides stimulation, contact with others, physical

mobility and prevention of pressure sores. In actuality wandering is a response to physical and psychological needs such as boredom, isolation, hunger, pain, excessive or lack of stimulation and anxiety. However, wandering also can be detrimental when a resident attempts to elope, enter unsafe areas or unable to eat or drink due to excessive motion causing fatigue, weight loss, dehydration and death. With these factors in mind, it is necessary for the interdisciplinary team to work closely with the family members, to assess the needs of each wanderer. Based on his or her assessment, the team will develop a care plan with interventions and goals that promotes the physical and psychological well being of the resident in a safe and home like environment. q

New Jersey along with other states has established the program to provide incentives for individuals to insure against the costs of providing for their long term care needs. More importantly it provides a mechanism for individuals to qualify for coverage of the cost of meeting their long-term care needs under Medicaid without first being required to substantially exhaust their resources. I can tell you from experience that while working at the ANRC, not one LTC insurance carrier has denied a claim. Thats something to ponder when thinking about your next investment move. At the ANRC we accept all LTC insurance carriers and have begun aligning ourselves with networks to help consumers make informed decisions about their long term care needs. On Thursday January 15th, The Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center welcomed Archbishop Khajag Barsamian along with Father Diran Bohajian for a Christmas blessing and celebration. The ANRC is extremely thankful for the Archbishop and the various clergy members who visit our home year after year. Their devotion to our building, the blessing of our home and of our residents brings joy and fulfills our residents spiritual needs. We greatly thank all members of the church who share in the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Friends of the Armenian Home (FAH) Neiman Marcus Fall Fashion Show, Luncheon and Super Raffle held in Paramus, NJ on September 7, 2008. Mrs. Karen Nargizian Chaired this event along with her Co-Chairs Mrs. Armine Pechdimaldji and Mrs. Ica Kouyoumdjian chaired the Super Raffle. We hope this fundraiser will enable us to provide a very successful outcome for the benefit of our Hye Doun, its residents and future new building project.
