There are many languages spoken in India however Hindi is the language that the central government recognizes.When you do business with India, English is the language of international commerce. Indian society operates under strict hierarchy that defines peoples roles, status and social order.

India is located in Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, between Burma and Pakistan. There is only one referencing point on a map for India which is strictly known as Asia. It is slightly more than one-third the size of the U.S. The climate varies from tropical monsoon in the south to temperate in the north. When going to India, you must be aware of natural hazards like droughts, flash floods, as well as widespread and destructive flooding from monsoonal rains, severe thunderstorms and earthquakes. There are also environmental issues like deforestation, soil erosion, overgrazing, desertification, and air pollution from industrial effluents and vehicle emissions. In many places throughout the world, business etiquette is very important. In India, a proper handshake is in order however; their kind of handshake is when the palm of their hands is brought together at chest level with a slight bow of the head. This shows respect and is a formal way of welcoming the other person in a conversation. When addressing an Indian you know on a personal level, always address them with a formal title whether it being Professor, Doctor, Mr., Mrs., or if you dont know their names, the proper way to call them would be Sir or Madam. Business cards should be the first thing in a meeting and should be exchanged with the other business person. It is important to have English and Hindi on your business cars as it shows a great deal of respect to the Indians. Make sure to be delicate with other business cards and not simply pushed away into a pocket like you dont have a sense of respect or else the meeting will be terminated. Meetings should be arranged well in advance. This should be done in writing and confirmed over the telephone. Always avoid scheduling meetings on or near national holidays and dont book them in between October and March to avoid the heat. After meetings, once terms have been agreed, you will be expected to honour them. When negotiations end successfully continue the relationship building process with a celebration dinner. for late morning or early afternoon, between the hours of 11 and 4. Making decisions is often a slow and thoughtful process in Indian culture. Deadlines should not be rushed as impatience is seen as aggressive, rude and disrespectful.
