Teachers

Vicki Smart Lanius: Owner & Tutor: B.S.Ed., M.Ed. in Reading


Vicki has a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education in Reading from BGSU. She was a classroom teacher in Bryan City Schools for 35 years, teaching Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and Title 1 Reading. She also taught the Practicum in Literacy Intervention at BGSU.

Programs and Fees:


One-on-One Tutoring:
We provide academic tutoring for children age 4 through Grade 8 in ALL subject areas. We work side-by-side with your childs teacher to develop an individualized plan. Each session lasts about 50 minutes.

Alison Smart Hutchison: Owner: Associates in E.C.D.


Alison has an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development from Owens Community College and is currently a preschool teacher at Montpelier Nursery School. She has been the lead teacher for children ages 3-5 for the past 11 years.

Tutoring Fees:
The cost is $25 per hour for one session per week, or $22.50 per session for two or more sessions per week.

Heather Stoops: Tutor: B.E.C.Ed


Heather has a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education from Ashland University and is currently obtaining a masters degree in Special Education from the University of Toledo. She has been employed by Bryan City Schools for the past 3 years, where she is currently a Kindergarten Intervention Specialist. She has also taught in Germany and England.

Scholarships:
Our goal is for all children to become fluent, proficient readers. If you are not able to afford the cost of tutoring, we will be glad to discuss a scholarship for your child.

Chris Oberlin: Tutor: B.S.Ed


Chris has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education. She was employed at Bryan City Schools for 35 years, where she taught students with academic and developmental delays. She has also worked as a job coach and taught at Four County Vocational School.

Margie Olds: Tutor: B.S.Ed., M.Ed.


Margie has a Bachelor of Science in Education and Special Education from Miami University, a Masters in Special Education, and a School Counselor Masters from BGSU. She has been a classroom teacher for 34 years and is currently a Kindergarten Intervention Specialist in Bryan City Schools. She also teaches summer school and has provided private tutoring.

Tutoring Week!

Call Vicki to schedule either a free Informal Reading Assessment, or a free Tutoring Session for your child. Each session will last about 45 minutes and can be scheduled between the hours of 9am-5pm. Call Vicki soon at 419-438-5768! Be sure to mention free tutoring session when you call!

Summer Camps
JUNE 25-28: OUR OUTDOOR WORLD 9:00-10:00 Age 4 through completed Kindergarten This will be a hands-on camp that will include gardening activities in the Smart Farm Garden. We will also plant a tree. Each child will learn Reading skills by completing a simple project on the topic of Gardening or Bugs. These projects will be on display and shared with parents, family, and friends on the last day of camp. Children who attend this camp will be invited back in the Fall to pick a pumpkin and enjoy lunch using the vegetables harvested from the garden. 10:30-12:00 Completed 1st Grade through completed 5th Grade This camp will involve hiking to the woods on Smart Farm and exploring the river, trees, and plants. We will also plant a tree. We will spend one day at Crommer Park in Pioneer and participate in community service by picking-up trash and enjoy a picnic lunch. 10:30-12:00 Completed 1st Grade through completed 5th Grade Since the Summer Olympic games open July 27, we will be hosting our own Smart Olympics. We will have traditional and non-traditional sports. A few examples are soccer, cheerleading, an Angry Bird slingshot, and an obstacle course. Children will be able to participate in the events they choose. Medals will be awarded to the winners in each category. Each student will complete a project on the topic of sports or athletes. These projects will be on display and shared with parents, family, and friends on the last day of camp.

Camp Fees
Camp Fees for children age 4 through those who have completed Kindergarten will be $40. Fees for children who have completed Grade 1 through completed Grade 5 will be $50.
