1. INTRODUCTION
1.1. What Is Combinational Latching?

When we use word latching, means were trying to lock or hold something and combinational latching means we use combinations of words or numbers to hold or lock something for example doors , briefcases etc.

1.2.

What Is Used ?

As explained above we used combinations for words or numbers to latch or to set password to lock or hold something. It is a digital combinational latch so; digital integrated circuits are used to achieve the results. In this circuit, decade counters (4017), seven segment drivers(4026), AND logic gate (4081) and common cathode seven segment are used.

1.3.

Cheap Enough?

This circuit is cheap enough to be applied in area where we need to secure our things, because, parts were used in it are easily available in markets at very low prices.

2. WORKING
2.1. Working Principle:

This circuit bases on the principle of counting. When push button switch is pressed both 4017 and 4026 get advanced and 4026 displays the number of count while 4017 advances its output pin (e.g. 0 to 1) and the output pins are connected to other counter with an AND logic (4081). So, only correct number of pushes will allow second counter to counter another buttons pushes and when the correct number of pushes on all counters are done the red LED ( indicating the status of latching ) is turned off and green LED turned on ( indicating that circuit is unlatched )

2.2.

Supplying DC Voltages:

Circuit requires 11.70 voltages to start working. Increasing or decreasing voltages may cause problems in circuits because of bouncing property of counters. Circuit is restricted to this amount of voltages with de-bouncing RC network.

2.3.

Setting Up Password:

Password can be set by using selective switches available on board. Each selection unit has 10 switches to turn on. Turning specified switch on will set the password for it. For example user wants to set the

password to 1357. Then user must turn on first switch of first selection unit third of second unit and fifth of third unit and seventh of forth and last selection unit. Picture above shows that the ninth switch is turned on others are off.

2.4.

De-Latching Circuit:

Circuit can be de-latched by using the user interface designed for it. The user pushes the button to select the correct password. For example password is set to 4321 then user has to push first button four time second three times, third two times and last one just one time. The seven segment display shows that how many numbers of pushes have occurred. The example shows the process.

3. Conclusion
3.1. Possible Errors:

The most unwanted error in digital counting based circuits is bouncing, when the amount of voltages are changed circuit starts bouncing with random outputs this causes error in circuits even if password is correctly entered. This can be avoided by pushing buttons after a little late so that capacitor attached to IC discharged.
