Dear Year 4 Parents,

Monday 16th April 2012

I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable break and are ready for another busy term ahead. I would like to inform you about the next half term in Year 4. Literacy This half term we will focus on Narrative, Plays and Scripts: Stories set in an imaginary world Poetry: creating images We will be continue spelling of suffixes, prefixes and high frequency words, and applying these rules to their independent work, as well as grammar and punctuation. Mathematics In mathematics we will be following the new Numeracy Framework. This term we continue to extend childrens knowledge, skills and understanding of; Block E2: Securing number facts, relationships and calculating Block A3: Counting partitioning and calculating Block B3: Securing number facts, understanding shape We will continue working on the multiplication tables facts, focusing on the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times table and finding the corresponding division facts.

INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY CURRICULUM For the duration of this term we will be following a unit of work which focuses on habitats. During this unit, entitled Do You Live Around Here - Habitats? we will be focusing on art, geography, history, ICT, science and technology.

In art well be finding out about how artists have represented habitats making paintings and collages of habitats finding out about and using different art materials In geography well be comparing habitats around the world and the impact of humans upon them finding out about the ways in which different people live their lives finding out about homes in our home countries and host country comparing homes in different countries finding out how homes are built to suit the climate In history well be finding out about the changes that human discoveries have made to the places that Earths creatures live in looking at photographs of the locality to show things which have changed and which have stayed the same In ICT well be using the Internet to support our research using ICT to organise and present our work

In science well be finding out how things grow in different habitats finding out how changes to habitats can affect the things living in them finding out the food sources of some animals distinguishing between animals that eat plants and those which eat other animals planning an investigation and a fair test In technology well be finding out what improvements can be made to houses and homes in relation to their environment designing a house International Learning This IPC unit offers plenty of opportunity for children to look for similarities and differences between their home country and their host country of Malaysia. For example, in geography lessons we will be comparing housing chosen by people in different locations. If you have anything you would like to share with or present to the children or would like me to display in class regarding this unit of work, please contact me.
Culture module For the first half of term the learning will focus on our host country, Malaysia.
