If the full load efficiency and the power factor of the induction motor are 92% and .85% respectively. Calculate:1) Current in each motor phase and 2) Current in each alternator phase.

Q2) A symmetrical 3 phase, 400 v, 50 hz system supplied a balanced delta connected load. The current in each branch circuit is 20 A and the phase angle is 40 degree (lagging). Calculate 1) The line current and 2) Total power Also draw the phasor diagram showing phase voltages and current.

Q3)A single phase motor takes 50 A at a power factor of .6 lagging from 250 v, 50 hz supply. What value of capacitance must a shunt capacitor have to raise the overall power factor to .9?

Q4)A 3 phase ,37.3 kw , 440v , 50 hz induction motor operates on full load with an efficiency of 89% and at a power factor of .85 lagging. Calculate the total KVA ratings of capacitors required to raise the full load power factor at .95 lagging. What will be the capacitance per phase if the capacitors are a) Delta connected b) Star connected

Q5)A 400v, 3 phase induction motor load takes 900kva at a power factor of .707 . Calculate the kva rating of the capacitor bank to raise the resultant power factor of the installation of .866 lagging. Find also the resultant power factor when the capacitors are in circuit and the motor loads has fallen to 300kva at .5 power factor.

Tutorial sheet 2 and case study 1 1. A industry has a maximum demand of 1000 kw and a load factor of 80% . It buys from a company at the rate of Rs 240 per kw plus Rs 4 kwh consumed calculate the annual electricity bill of the industry . 2. A consumer requires one million units per year and his annual load factor is 50%. The tariff in force is Rs 120 per year plus Rs 3 per unit .Estimate the saving in his energy constants, which would result if he improves his load factor to 100%. 3. CASE STUDY: commercial time of use power tariffs Some commercial and government customers use most of the power outside the high demand period of 6am to 6pm. The time use tariff rewards customers who are able to shift their power usage to the non peak period.
