The three ways you can ensure that you maintain standard measures of performance when you work in records management are: Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) is a standard for handling, storing, printing, and transmitting information. DICOM is the standard for medical data a lot of information is available, although it will require someone experienced to walk you through it. Other medical protocols are Hospital Information Systems (HIS) help you deal with number of diverse types of data concerning the running of a hospital. This is a computerized system that is specifically designed to deal with all the information required to manage a hospital. Radiology Information System (RIS) Information systems, usually computer assisted, designed to store, manipulate, and retrieve information for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling administrative activities associated with the provision and utilization of radiology services and facilities. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a standard for information confidentiality, common mainly in the states. Title I of HIPAA, protects health insurance coverage for workers and their families when they change or lose their jobs. Title II of HIPAA, known as the Administrative Simplification (AS) provisions, requires the establishment of national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health insurance plans, and employers.
