Biographies Fulbright musicians 2011-2012

Clayton Marcinak Born in 1986 in Atlanta, American organist Clayton Marcinak began musical studies at the piano at the age of six. During the 2004-2005, he was the M. Murray and Lilian Peshkin Scholar at Columbia University in New York. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree in 2009 from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and a Master of Music degree in 2011 from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Awarded a Fulbright grant to continue his studies in France, Clayton currently studies at the Toulouse Conservatory with renowned French organist Michel Bouvard. His research in France focuses on performance practice issues relating to late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century organ music by French composers.

Natalia Kazaryan Hailed by the New York Sun for "her prodigious ability" who "immediately established an atmosphere of strength and confidence", 24- year old Natalia Kazaryan is the 2011 recipient of both the Fulbright Grant and the Harriett Hale Woolley Scholarship to study in Paris. As her research project, Natalia is studying Olivier Messiaens Vingt Regards sur lenfant - Jsus with Michel Broff, one of the leading French pianists and experts on the music of Messiaen. As a student at The Juilliard School, where she studied with Jerome Lowenthal and Matti Raekallio, Natalia received the opportunity to participate in its first exchange program with the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. At the Conservatoire, she was enrolled in the piano class of Michel Broff, and the chamber music class of Valrie Aimard. The exchange between Juilliard and the Paris Conservatoire was sponsored by the Carla Bruni - Sarkozy Foundation. An active chamber musician, Natalia was a part of the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship, dedicated to collaboration between The Juilliard School, the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and the Universitt fr Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien Natalia has performed in solo and chamber music recitals around Europe and the United States. She is a prize winner of numerous competitions, including the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin

Competition, the Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition and the Second New York Piano Competition, which has provided her with concert management. This seasons engagements include performances at the Acadmie Internationale de Musique et de Danse in Nice, Fondation des Etats Unis and Ambassade des tats-Unis in Paris, and the Universitt der Knste (UdK) in Berlin, among others.

Juliann Ma Twenty-two year old pianist Juliann Ma has been actively performing since the age of four. Native to the San Francisco Bay Area of California, Juliann made her major debut at Herbst Theater at fifteen, as the 2005 feature soloist with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. Since then Juliann has been featured in numerous concerts in America and Europe, most recently at the Arnold Schnberg Center; the Stanford Pan-Asian Music Festival; the Daniel Pearl World Memorial Concert Series; the German-American Fulbrights Music Gala in Berlin; Holy Trinity Church in collaboration with Ars Antonia in Nice; and the Dme des Grands Ecuries in Rhapsodie Amricaine in cooperation with Le Mnestrel and American Friends of Chantilly. Juliann is also an active chamber musician. Starting at the age of eight with the Crowden School and San Francisco Conservatory and later with students of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, she now collaborates with students and composers at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. Recently graduated from Stanford University, Juliann completed her bachelors degree with Honors in Music and a minor in Creative Writing, receiving the Robert M. Golden Medal for her outstanding contributions to the Humanities and Creative Arts. This year, she pursues her projects as a Fulbright Scholar, training with pianist Erik Berchot for the Diplme dExcution at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. Her concert exams are public and will take place in Salle Cortot.
