This video will explain each of these classes in a bit more detail in order to ensure that you pick classes for next year that you will enjoy.

Art 8
Full year art is a course for incoming 8th graders that are very interested in the art field. It is taught by either Mrs. Schindler or Mrs. Bluemel. This class is recommended for the students that are dedicated to and enjoy art. Those people that are considering positions in a field that may include graphic design, drawing, sculpting, or any type of visual arts should consider this class. If you are interested in taking art at the high school, it is recommended to take full year art in eighth grade. If you are the type of person that does not have the discipline to work in an art class all year long, then this class is probably not for you. Different projects include printmaking, ceramics, working with perspective, drawing 3-D objects, making portfolios, drawing with pastels, and lots of painting. Full year art is a great class for those who are creative and are enthusiastic about art.

Semester Art
Semester art is a class aimed towards those who are interested in art, but dont see it as a career choice. This course is taught by Mrs. Bluemel and meets every day for a semester. This class is a full step up from seventh grade art, but does not go into as much detail as full year art. Semester art focuses mainly on the use of the elements of art. If you enjoy art but dont feel like you could handle a full year, this class could be the right choice. This class is perfect for learning more technique and improving your artistic talent.

AMP
AMP otherwise known as art and music production is taught by both Mrs. Schindler and Mr. Bedford. AMP is a full year course in which Mr. Bedford's and Mrs. Schindler's classes switch every three weeks. AMP teaches students how to use mixcraft, audacity,

and windows moviemaker on the computers. These technology skills are then mixed with the projects that are completed in art. Some of the projects that AMP does include a Halloween movie, a holiday soundtrack, and a commercial/public service announcement. In this class, you are also given the opportunity to work in s professional filming studio. So if you are considering a career in computer programming, graphics, video making, animation, being a news anchor, script writing, or directing a TV studio this class would be a great option for you. AMP class is a terrific opportunity to b exposed to creative work in a mix between art and technology.

Band
Eighth grade band is required for high school band entry. The director of Centers eighth grade band is Mr. Bedford. The difference between seventh and eighth grade band is the music, there are more notes, a larger range, more sharps and flats, and tempos and dynamics are stressed. If you were not in seventh grade band but you play an instrument, talk to Mr. Bedford about auditioning for a spot. Eighth grade band gets the opportunity to play in multiple concerts, play with the high school marching band, and have the opportunity to compete in solo and ensemble. Also in eighth grade band, your relationship with fellow band members becomes a lot stronger and long lasting friendships are created. Also in eighth grade band there are the occasional solos and chances to play with the orchestra. Eighth grade band is a great way to improve your musical skills.

Regular choir
8th grade choir is a full year course directed by Mrs. Foky and is a great place to develop a good singing voice. Choir is appropriate for those who have been singing or who have never sung before, but want some experience. In this class you learn about sight singing, how to read music, different musical vocabulary, and how to you use your voice in different ways. Also, choir is a great place to be exposed to different types of music. Choir performs at three different concerts per year. The difference between seventh and eighth grade choir is that you are permanently sorted into soprano, altos, and guys, and so all of the music is sung in the appropriate key. If you are interested in singing, performing, and having fun, this class would be a great option.

Select choir
Select choir is an audition group of select vocalists that meets every day, all year long. Auditions for this group are held at the end of the seventh grade year. This group is also directed by Mrs. Foky. In this, class students focus on notes, pitch, tempo, and dynamics. Students in this group perform multiple times a year and compete at music in the parks. Select choir students take notes on their music and go in depth into vocal and other musical terminology. Although they do a lot of other learning, the main priority is

just singing, singing, and more singing. So if you enjoy singing and have a good voice, you are encouraged to try out for this ensemble of talented vocalists.

Orchestra
8th grade orchestra is a full year course directed by Mr. Bedford that meets every day for a year. If you did not play in seventh grade, but you play an instrument, please see Mr. Bedford about auditions. The music played in this orchestra is more difficult and has much more sharps and flats than last years orchestra. The focus of 8th grade orchestra is to put all musical knowledge to use, and to become better musicians. Orchestra performs in 3-4 concerts per year. If you are looking to play high school orchestra, it is highly recommended that you take orchestra in 8th grade. This class is challenging, but the music and the director improve your skills and make those who take the class, even more talented musicians.

FCS
Family Consumer Science, known as FCS is a semester course taught by Mrs. Ruese. This class is a lot of fun, and the students learn a lot. The class is similar to the 7 th grade class, but is targeted more towards dedicated kids. Projects that students work on include creating a folder that describes them, creating posters about possible future college choices, learning how to cook more complex recipes, cooking a full 3 meals at home, and, of course, a sewing project. If you enjoy cooking, sewing, or even just learning something new, this class is a fantastic route.

Music appreciation
Music appreciation is a semester course taught by Mrs. Oltmans. In this class students learn about early composers, music terminology, how to read music, and how to play guitar. No experience is needed and guitars are provided by the school. Class space is limited to the amount of guitars available, but students with their own guitars are encouraged to bring them in. This class is targeted towards beginners because all of guitar basics are taught and everybody is instructed together. If wanting to learn more about music and wanting to learn how to play the guitar sound like something you want to do, then this class is perfect.

LA Tech
Language arts with technology is a semester course taught by Mrs. Baker. Every day the class starts out with a journal entry. The class then proceeds to teach how language and technology are combined today for instance emails and computer designing. The class drastically improves writing skills and relationships between everyday life and technology. Projects include a big presentation about yourself, a sample senior citizen

pamphlet, and lots and lots of posters. This course is amazing because it improves your writing skills and puts you ahead.

Reading period
Reading period is a full year course overseen by team advisors. Really this class is just a time to relax and read a book. For one period a day its finally a time to forget whatever is going on in all your other classes and just get lost in a story. Some classes not only read books, but newspapers and usually these classes discuss and debate about events happening around the world. This class can really open you up to reading books you may not have read otherwise. If you love or even just enjoy reading, then reading period would be a great class for you.
