Help Send a Family to Camp! 2012 Fundraising Campaign

Dear Community Member, The 13th annual Kits House Family Camp Weekend is taking place on Friday June 22nd to Sunday June 24th, 2012. Every year, this program supports local families who are not able to afford summer camp on their own. Family Camp gives vulnerable families the opportunity to experience the outdoors while spending quality time together. Family get the chance to be being active, creative and build stronger relationships with their own families and with other Westside families. Kits House Family Camp Weekend is a great way for families on the Westside to gather, connect and provide support to each other. Thanks to last years donations, we were able to provide over $700 in subsidies to enable the participation of local low-income families. A single mom with 2 sons ages 5 and 10 shared her story: Since we arrived to Canada, I havent been able to afford a family vacation. Thanks to the subsidy we received, I was able to take my 2 boys to Family Camp. It was also our first time camping together, and first time kayaking on a lake! Sasamat was so peaceful and relaxing for me, and a lot of fun for the whole family. My sons made new friends and had such a great time, they want to come back every year! As members of our community, we urgently ask you to participate in our 2012 Help Send a Family to Camp Fundraising Campaign. Your donation will allow Kits House to continue to meet the growing need for subsidies so that vulnerable families get to experience camp together and feel a sense of belonging on Vancouvers Westside. A wide range of donation opportunities are available for you and/or your business to contribute. Our goal this year is to raise $5,000 for Family Camp. $120 sends a child / youth to Family Camp $500 sends a family of four to Family Camp $1000 sends two families to Family Camp Our goal this year is to raise $5,000!

Family Camp Feedback

I loved everything! Campfire, guitar and singing, and lots of outdoor activities! I met my neighbours, shared cross-cultural connections with other parents, and even met someone to exchange language with. I felt so welcome in such a friendly environment! And It was great to see our kids playing with the other kids in a safe place and with a bit of independence.

Kitsilano Neighbourhood House (Kits House), member of Association of Neighbourhood Houses BC, is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to providing critically needed programs and services to those most vulnerable in our Westside community. For example, accessible family programs and support for home-bound seniors. Fundraising initiatives are underway to support these programs and services as well as the redevelopment project for the existing heritage buildings and the construction of new affordable seniors housing at 7th & Vine.
