Reading and WritingPublic Speaking Students have been changing their focus this week from writing and analyzing poetry to writing and analyzing different speeches. They are all studying how to not only write a speech, but also how to present one. Next week students will write their own one minute speeches which they will present and modify to make better.

SOCIAL STUDIES WITH MS. TEXTOR

In Social Studies, students took time this week to learn about the Maya Civilization. They discovered who they were, where they were located, and what their civilization was like. Students were able to discuss the lives of the people and the social structure in which they lived. Towards the end of the week students had the opportunity to begin working on their final project. Students will have in class opportunities to work on this project but are also encouraged to work on what they don't finish at home. All information for this final project can be found on the classroom website. Please Note: This project is worth a lot to your students grade so it is imperative that they are doing everything they can to complete the project. It is due on May 15th, giving students time to work each week in class. Make sure to ask your student about their final project so that they can explain to you what it is and what they have learned in class so far too!

SCIENCE WITH MRS. LEE

Sound and waves officially entered the science classroom this week as students learned all about pitch forks and vocal frequencies. They all had the opportunity to feel the power of a sound wave while experimenting with the forks as they responded differently to being placed in water. It was a fun experiment for students to engage in as they heard and felt the results. Scientists will move to light next week.
