Summary
The Michigan Ave. Academy does an excellent job of incorporating technology into the classroom overall. I would place this school in Integrated moving towards Intelligent in the Technology Maturity Benchmark Model. The school is open and flexible with planning and teachers help to evaluate technology in the school. Most technology was received from Grant monies written by teachers and then incorporated accordingly. Moving forward the school has been so fortunate and has had the opportunity to see technology in action, so they are very flexible and open to any new things the teachers want to try (if budgets allow). The technology is used daily by students and teachers. Teachers send all documents electronically. Students have access to high speed internet and in fourth through sixth grade participate in a 1:1 blended learning model. The lower grades have limited access to technologies but SMART boards are planned for the 2012-2013 school year and a shared set of classroom iPads for the lower grades. Teachers and students do not have access to any kind of videos found on the Web. We do have Safari Montage a searchable application with educational videos. Students do not have email which makes it hard to type up papers and print, or access applications like Evernote and Dropbox, even Google Docs. I do believe the school is ahead of most in its forward thinking and willingness to adapt to the ever changing technologies available. There is always room for improvement and I think with practice the school should be Intelligent in the Technology Maturity Benchmark Model.
