Putting together this first
issue of the William Rhodes
Hervey Lodge No. 767
Trestle Board, for the 2012
Masonic year, has been both
challenging and exciting, to
say the least.

Not having worked with
Microsoft Publisher before, I
immediately saw the possi-
bilities and was instantly
hooked. I now see magazines
and newsletters with a
completely different eye.

It has been an honor putting
this initial piece together for
you to help everyone stay
informed and interested and I
look forward to hearing your
feedback and ideas about
what youd like to see in
future issues.

Our Master and First Lady
have a wonderful year of
family fun.filled events
planned for us, which can only
be experienced to the fullest
by engaging ourselves and
being active, involved and
keeping in the know.

would like to extend my
sincere gratitude and apprecia-

Frederick Edwards, who made
an effort on his own to familiar-

after receiving the unpw from,
Bro. Roderick Francisco. It is
an outstanding job that needs to
be recognized.

Also, it is my honor and pleas-
ure to announce that the rebuild-
ing or reconstructing of our own
website is now almost done.

revive our website. Another out-

stated meeting, we

the beginning of Harmony in
our Lodge when it comes to

This year is off to a great start
for the Lodge due to the Brethren
working together for the support
of Brotherhood, Relief and Truth.
I am so blessed to be part of this
great team.

Knowing that the Senior
Warden office is the station of
strength, allows me to deeply
think about how I should develop
and show Masonic traits; fulfill-
ing Brotherly Love, Relief and
Truth for our Craft.

I realize that our Lodge has a
diverse spectrum of Brothers and
each of us may have just a little
different slant on the road we are
traveling.

As Masons and members of the
Craft, we must work very hard
together, as a productive team, in
growing to support all of our
Brothers, their widows and or-
phans. As long as we embrace
this enthusiasm, our Lodge will
continue to grow.

We constantly must
show the vision that
evolves from this spirit of
working together.

This means each of us is
working to help good men
be better men.

This truly is a positive
quality-of-being worth
striving to attain in our
daily lives and it makes
me feel like I am practic-
ing what the Craft has
taught me and that which
is demanded of the Senior
Warden's station.

Frank Loui was
installed as Grand Master on Septem-
ber 25, 2011.

Frank was raised a Master Mason in
1986 in Fidelity Lodge No. 120 (now
San Francisco Lodge No. 120) and
served as Master in 1992. He affiliated
with California Lodge No. 1 in San
Francisco and served as its Treasurer
and Secretary.

Frank served Grand Lodge as Inspec-
tor of the 163rd Masonic District for
nine years, a member of the Committee
of Twenty and Annual Communication
Activities Committee, a director of the
Acacia Creek and Nob Hill Masonic
Center, a trustee of the Masonic Homes
of California, California Masonic Foun-
dation and California Masonic Memo-
rial Temple. He served as Senior Grand
Steward in 1996/1997 under Most Wor-
shipful Allen B. Gresham and as Senior
Grand Deacon in 2004/2005 under Most
Worshipful David R. Doan.

Frank is a member of numerous Ma-
sonic organizations. He is a Past Vener-
able Master of the Lodge of Perfection
at the San Francisco Scottish Rite and
was honored with the rank and decora-
tion of Honorary Inspector General of
the 33 Degree in 2003. He is currently
the Personal Representative of the
Sovereign Grand Inspector General and
General Secretary for the San Fran-
cisco Scottish Rite Bodies. He is also a
member of the Oakland Scottish Rite
Bodies.




Frank is a past presiding officer of all
three York Rite Bodies. He has served
the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons as
Grand Bible Bearer. He is a member of
Asiya Shrine, the Masonic Rosicrucian
Society of the United States, the
National Sojourners - Golden Gate
Chapter No. 18 and Heroes of 76. He
served as President of the Golden Gate
Masters and Past Masters Association
and the Chinese Acacia Club.





He received the Honorary Legion of
Honor from the Order of DeMolay.
In community affairs, Frank served the
Saint Monica Mens Club and the San
Francisco Chinatown Lions Club.



Frank was born in San Francisco,
attended California public schools, and
graduated from San Francisco State
University with a Bachelor of Arts in
Business Administration. He and his
wife Jeanie have been married for 38
years and have two adult sons, Kevin
and Gregory. Their oldest son, Kevin, is
currently serving our country in the
United States Army.

T
he Los Angeles Masonic Service Bureaus second
meeting was held on February 5, 2012 at the Pasa-
dena Scottish Rite Temple in Pasadena, California.
The guest speaker was the Right Worshipful John
Lowe, who is the current Deputy Grand Master of
Masons in California.

During the meeting, all the Los Angeles area Senior
Wardens in attendance were introduced and recognized ,
including our very own, Bro. Marvin Paez Jr. and my-
self, WB Polar Quinto, (representing Rosemead Lodge
#457).

Right Worshipful Lowe discussed the strategic plans for
his term as Grand Master for the year 2013. He chal-
lenged the future Masters of each of the Lodges to start
connecting with the Unified School District where their
lodge is located to set up reachable goals to break the cycle
of illiteracy, and to help the Grand Lodge reach its
$750,000.00 target in support of the,
Raising A Reader program.



















He further gave emphasis on the following:

Improving lodge membership experiences
Having strong candidate Masonic Education Programs
Leadership management through tutorials for both
the Master and the Wardens
Connecting with individual members and their fami-
lies (beyond the lodge), utilizing the core values of ma-
sonry
And supporting public education and community ser-
vices.

















On March 04, 2012, William Rhodes Hervey Lodge #767
(composed of the WM Virgilio Baraceros Jr.,
Bro. Marvin Paez Jr., Bro. Alvin Pierce, Jr. and my-
self) attended the Masonic Service Bureau Breakfast/
Meeting at the LAX Hilton Hotel honoring,
Grand Master Frank Loui.

This event is considered the largest gathering of
Masons in California (exceeded only by the Annual
Communication every September in San Francisco).
Most Worshipful Loui charged that all Lodges support the
Grand Lodge, Raising A Reader campaign, with the aim
of raising $750,000.00 for the program. This can be
achieved through lodge donations or individual donations.

It is not too late brethren, to support this noble
program.

Our next Service Bureau meeting will be on April 29,
2012 at the Pasadena Scottish Rite Temple. We will be
hosting representatives from different Masonic Youth
Groups ( the De Molay, Jobs Daughter and Rainbow
For Girls). Everyone is invited to attend and listen to
what these youth groups have to offer.

A Message from the:


The facts are startling


California ranks near the bottom of the United
States for child literacy.

The vast majority of low-income families dont
have a single book in their homes.

90% of children who cannot read at grade level
by 3rd grade will never catch up and - the effects
will last a lifetime.

Each September, Masons in California
celebrate the U.S. Constitution that
beacon of freedom written in Philadelphia
in the summer of 1787. It is the oldest such
document in existence, and is not only the
symbol of our freedom but also its guarantee.
After more than 200 years, it still symbolizes
that people can govern themselves.

The new American Republic was an
experiment in self-government. Once it
gained independence from Great Britain,
very few of the established nations of the
day expected the American Revolution to
result in anything more than the creation
of a collection of tyrannical states. But
they were wrong. The freedom won in
the Revolution endured largely due to the
U.S. Constitution and its principle of
constitutionalism.




We know that many Masons were
involved in writing our Constitution. Not
so widely known is that the principle on
which the Constitution is based is
Masonic one whose symbol is the
compass. Masons such as George
Washington (who presided over the
Constitutional Convention) and
Benjamin Franklin (the oldest delegate)
knew and understood the use of the
compass as a Masonic symbol. They
knew that this symbol could be
transformed into an instrument of
government that would guarantee the
liberties won in the hard-fought battles
of the American Revolution.




The compass is an emblem of the
limitation of power. We are taught to use
it to keep our passions within due
bounds towards all mankind. We are to
use it to respect the boundary between
our own desires and needs and the
desires and needs of others. This is the
principle of constitutionalism. The noble
words with which the Preamble begins,
We the people of the United States, are
followed by clause after clause of
limitations on how the people are to
exercise those rights and powers for good
or for ill. Our freedoms have survived
because we have accepted the principle
that the powers inherent to the people
are expected to be limited.




It would be interesting to know if the
Masons at the Constitutional Convention
explained this to the non-Mason
delegates. In all probability, the non-
Masons did not know the connection
between Masonic teachings and what
they were trying to create. But we may be
thankful that the Masons understood
the use of the compass and that
constitutionalism as well as the
Constitution became the cornerstone of
our nation. Respect for the rule of law
and respect for the Constitution are
Masonic ideals. It is therefore most fitting
that we honor the Constitution of the
United States each September and honor
constitutionalism every time we place
the compass on our altar when a
Masonic lodge is at work.
