The Kia ceed is a car that will meet your exacting demands for style, performance, practicality and economy... But it has the little extras that make driving a real pleasure. This is a car thats attractive to see, pleasant to touch, enticing to smell and a joy to listen to.

The instruments are carefully located and designed to help you monitor your speed, distance travelled, engine revs and fuel level without being distracted from the road ahead. They are lit with a high visibility orange glow that is designed not to be distracting, but to ensure that the eyes easily adjust to the gauges at night. The integrated digital information panel shows a range of useful data at a glance, including calendar, clock, trip computer, outside temperature, audio system information and door ajar indicator. The air conditioning panel with clear controls allows you to cool or warm the car in seconds.

The Siemens audio head unit and six Blaupunkt audio speakers maximise the quality of music you choose, and the way you want to listen is also yours. At high speeds the car noise level may increase and the volume will adjust to compensate. The Kia ceed is equipped as standard with a state of the art RDS stereo with CD and MP3 player, all neatly mounted in the centre console of the dash. The ready-to-go USB, AUX and iPod* connections allow you to take your iPod*, other MP3 player or Minidisc with you. Steering wheel audio controls are also standard, allowing you to change volume or station very easily.

Breathing space Space is not an afterthought in the Kia ceed, with its ample head and leg room, a 340 litre* luggage capacity in the boot and fold-down rear seats that can accommodate the bulkiest of items through the rear hatch door. The Kia ceed is 4,2 metres in length giving it a uniquely long wheelbase that provides classleading interior space. This space has been well-defined to ensure the occupants have ample room, appropriately positioned controls, extraordinary technology and levels of comfort that you will soon take for granted, but are far from standard in most modern vehicles.

The Kia ceed has everything at hand to make every driving experience relaxed and enjoyable both for the driver and passengers. The driving position is made as comfortable as possible thanks to carefully located controls and dials as well as an airy and visually appealing interior. From this advantageous position you will appreciate the performance and driveability of the car. The seating is designed for optimum comfort, with sporty seats in the front featuring lumbar adjustment controls for the perfect seating position. Its great fun to play and explore, which is why the Kia ceed takes safety so seriously. While you drive, technology is at work monitoring, assessing and reacting to your driving style, the external conditions and the world around you. At every moment it will be helping you and your passengers maintain control and stay as safe as possible.

The Kia ceed is an extremely safe place to be. It has a range of features that protect its occupants in the event of an accident. The active headrests help to reduce neck and spinal injuries from the forces of a collision. By moving forwards and up within milliseconds of the moment of impact, the exact response will cushion the head and can prevent whiplash, one of the biggest injury risks. The Kia ceed is equipped with six airbags, a standard feature that is designed to maximise protection to all occupants, both in the front and rear. The dual airbags in the front, side airbags and curtain airbags have been upgraded to provide considerable protection to the pelvis, torso and thorax. They work in tandem with seatbelt pretensioners on the front seats to provide full passenger protection. All five seats include three point seatbelts and adjustable head restraints, with two ISOFIX child safety seat anchor points at the rear. The entire Kia ceed package is created to meet the drivers requirements for safety, security and peace of mind. The foursensor ABS* brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) with BAS

(emergency Brake Assistance System) ensure efficient braking. The headlights provide bright white, crisp and clear lighting, making both the road and car more visible in dark conditions. Anti-theft protection is high, with burglar alarm, advanced electronic immobiliser and dash-top security lamp to prevent theft of and theft from the car. Speed-sensing automatic door locks are a secure addition to the central locking and keyless entry, and for convenience a central locking button is located in the centre fascia. A tyre pressure monitoring system will indicate positions when a tyre is punctured or has low pressure, or if a brake lamp has failed. The seatbelt reminder that alerts passengers in the front seats to buckle up before you drive away.

The reinforced body structure has been engineered to provide exceptional torsion stiffness which not only benefits durability, but also refinement, handling and ride quality. It also has a front crash zone which will crumple in a controlled manner to absorb the forces of an impact.

The 1.4 litre CVVT (Continuous Variable Valve Timing) petrol engine is designed to be as efficient as possible at both high and low revs, ensuring that the engine is highly responsive and economical, whatever the driving conditions. Engineered to run smooth and quietly when you take the wheel, the Kia ceed engines provide the reassurance of a cutting-edge, reliable power source under the bonnet. The 1.6 litre VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger) 16-valve diesel engine is born of the latest technology of the second generation Bosch CRDi to create an engine that combines the characteristics of a petrol engine with the economy a diesel is renowned for. This highly efficient engine ensures you feel the benefit of the turbo even at slow speeds, and offers excellent fuel economy at all engine speeds, low emissions, reduced noise and an all-round dynamic performance.

Sporty three-dial instruments: When you are at the wheel of your Kia ceed you will love the modern styling and the clear visibility of the dials, with contrasting black and white which highlights the digits. Instruments visibility is perfect with the attractive display and Kias orange illumination. Trip computer & Integrated information system: It is vital that you have the tools within your immediate eye line to maintain a safe and efficient driving style. The trip computer and centre fascia display with other driving information are the keys to this.

Centre fascia console tray & Ash-tray: Its great to have loose change for parking or other items close at hand and hidden from outside view. Conveniently located at the bottom of the centre fascia, and with a folding cover, it is the perfect place for storing small items, and has a convenient ash-tray and cigarette lighter within.

Airconditioning: Maintain the perfect driving temperature with the air conditioning control. Set the temperature level you need and select the power and direction of the fresh air by pressing the soft-touch buttons.

RDS + CD + MP3 audio, speed rated volume control: A high quality Siemens audio system developed specially for the Kia ceed gives you the choice to listen to FM radio, CD or external device through six quality Blaupunkt speakers. At high speeds the cabin noise level may increase and the volume will adjust to compensate.

USB, AUX and iPod connections: The revolution in music on the move and MP3 players such as the Apple iPod are often not supported by vehicles which are incompatible or use illegal devices to integrate MP3 with a stereo system. With the Kia ceed you can take your favourite music with you and simply plug in your MP3 through built-in USB, AUX and iPod connections. *iPod is a registered trademark of Apple, Inc.

Audio control on steering wheel: Safety is a paramount concern within the Kia ceed and we have avoided all unnecessary distractions. One such standard feature is the steering wheel audio control. Conveniently located buttons allow you to change volume and station very easily.

Motor driven power steering wheel: Steering in the Kia ceed is light and responsive, powered to your touch by sophisticated electric motors, which minimises fuel consumption. This also allows you to park easily at low speeds and reduces assistance at higher speeds for greater stability and handling.

Cup Holder: Drink spills are a thing of the past with two handy cup holders. One is located adjacent to the handbrake, designed with a deep recess to ensure even tall bottles remain stable in the most arduous driving conditions, while being close at hand for the driver or front passenger. The other can be folded down from the seat back at the rear.

Telescopically and tilt adjustable steering wheel: For optimal driving comfort, the steering wheel can be adjusted in height and depth to your preferred driving position.

Improved washer nozzle: Advanced washer nozzles are mounted on the bonnet with an air deflector that ensures the water jet is placed accurately onto the windscreen. A wider nozzle spray maximises the screen cleaning of the wipers.

Overhead console: Keep your glasses close at hand in a convenient fold-down carrier at head height, which opens with a subtle push click. The overhead console also features dual map lights.

Aero-blade wiper: Technology is always advancing and even the way a jet of water is sprayed onto the windscreen and the movement and components of wiper blades have taken many hundreds of man hours in development. This ensures an optimum water spray while the blade provides a clear, consistent wipe.

All-door pocket: Storage is at a premium in any car, and the Kia ceed makes use of space on all four interiors of the doors beneath arm rests and openers. The innovative door pocket is both spacious and deep to prevent items from falling out when the door is opened or closed.

The boundaries for the study were set for a life span of 12 years and distance coverage of 150.000 km. Kia followed the ISO 14040 series approach. The criteria of all future performance criteria are already defined during Design and Development. Kias experts employed methods such as Design for Manufacturing (DfM), Design for Serviceability (DfS), Design for Dismantling (DfD), and Design for Recycling (DfR) during the development of the Kia ceed and its components to be compliant with European legislation. The result of this proactive approach is that the Kia ceed already fulfils the new type approval requirements that are valid for 2008! The Kia ceed is designed to achieve an excellent environmental performance during its life cycle (=150.000 km and 12 years). While Kia engineers have done their best, it is up to you as customer to finally achieve it. Bearing the average driving behaviour in mind, the Kia ceed was designed to achieve the following environmental performance results:

Kia Motors is giving top priority to the development of new eco-friendly technologies and the dream of creating a cleaner, greener planet for the benefit of all mankind. To put our environmental protection initiatives on a stronger footing, Kia Motors established the Eco-Technology Research Institute in September 2005. The main focus of this Institute is the development of next-generation environment-friendly vehicles, new electric power systems, combustion emission reduction systems, and recycling technologies, including environment-friendly materials. This Institute conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (in short: LCA) of the Kia ceed, comparing a Kia ceed equipped with a 2.0 litre diesel engine (not available in Ireland) and a manual transmission to an equivalent model of a competitive compact car. Life Cycle Assessment is a methodology designed to make an assessment of environmental effects generated through a whole life cycle of a car, ranging from raw material acquisition, transportation, manufacturing, use and disposal.

Lets make that clear with an example of reducing Carbon dioxide emissions. Given the scope of 150.000 km for a use period of 12 years, you will save 970 kg of CO2 over the complete life cycle (from raw material acquisition to disposal). Given the fact that one tree* absorbs around 14 kg of CO2** each year, you would be doing the annual workload of a small forest with 69 trees. With its new plant in Zilina (Slovakia), Kia is leading the way in balancing manufacturing with environmental responsibility. The Zilina plant features technology that protects its workforce as well as local environment by minimising production emissions, green house gases and many types of production waste. Especially its close distance to a water reservoir and a river, the planning and building process required specific care and caution taking local environmental legislation in mind when setting up the plant. This required Kia to adopt best available technology (BAT) such as for the Paint Shop where the highest requirements are to be fulfilled to ensure granting the required production permit.

The Kia ceed was designed to improve the serviceability, dismantling, and recycling character. Applying Design for Serviceability (DfS) and Design for Dismantling (DfD) methods resulted in improving total disassembly activities and reducing the disassembly time enabling mechanics to exchange and repair parts faster. Kia consequently applies State-of-the-Art Design for Recycling (DfR) guidelines that ensure environmental friendly recycling at the end of a cars life. But not only the design also the ecological friendly takeback and treatment of End-of-Life vehicles is one of Kia environmental targets. By

applying a strictly environmental oriented selection process, Kia has selected partners across Europe that ensure environmental protection when handling harmful substances and waste streams. These waste streams are to a great extent later recycled or recovered to ensure the highest level of protection of natural resources. In order to have the most impact in the last phase of a cars life cycle, customers are required to hand over their vehicles to the recommended take-back partner of Kia in each European Member State. Only there, Kia can ensure environmental friendly treatment and cost-free disposal.
