EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE 5.1 CAM method of NC programming by CATIA CAM

Part: Generating Rough Stock and Axis Definition 1) The Catia file is opened. 2) The start button is clicked. The shape is selected. Then, generative shape design is chosen.

Figure 5.1.1

3) Surface machining tool is selected. 4) In the come up window, the rough stock is created and the part is selected. 5) The x, y and z were set up to 49.3mm, 46.5mm and 10mm respectively. 6) And then, the insert button is clicked and axis system is chosen. 7) The origin is set up on the left corner of the part. Make sure x and y axes were series with the part.

Part: Machining 1) The start button is called back. 2) The machining process is selected. 3) After that, prismatic machining is chosen.

Figure 5.1.3

4) On the left of the screen, the part operation is selected. 5) In the come up window, the default axis for the part and machine is sure to be same. 6) After that, the design is selected. The rough stock is hidden first before the part is chosen. 7) For stock selection, the rough stock is chosen (on the left of the screen). 8) Next, for safety plane selection, the very top of the part is selected.

9) Next, the drilling process is selected. 10) The machine spindle is set to be 3000 rpm.

Figure 5.1.5

11) The end mill tool for drilling process is chosen. The diameter for the tool is set to 6 mm. And the end radius for the tool is set to be zero.

Figure 5.1.6

12) For the part selection, the jump distance is set to be 20 mm and the through extension is selected. 13) The very top of the part is defined as the closest part while the two circles are defined as part surface and the bottom of the part is defined as bottom.

Figure 5.1.7 14) Next machining process is prismatic roughing. 15) For machine part, the automatic selections are unselected. And the quality is set to be finish.

Figure 5.1.8

16) For the part selection, the rough stock, top, part and bottom are defined. The offset on part and on check both are set to be zero. The automatic horizontal area detection is turn off.

Figure 5.1.9 17) Next, step over-length is chosen and is set 3 mm for the radial part.

18) After that, the axial part (depth of cut) is set to 3 mm too.

Figure 5.1.11 Part: Generating G-code 1) 2) 3) 4) NC Output Management is selected. Then, Generate NC Code in Batch Mode. Make sure the input CAT process is program and NC data type is NC Code. The IMS point processor file is changed to Siemen 840.

Part: NC program downloading to controller and rough stock datum setting 1) After that, the NC codes are transferred using memory card to CNC machine controller. 2) Then, go to program manager. 3) The NC code is copied and paste. 4) The NC codes are edited. Some of the g-code such as G49, G64, G20 and G80 are removed. 5) The tool from the tool magazine is called. 6) Simulation is done to check the overall the coming process. 7) The datum is set to z = 20.
