The Disciple Andrew-What do we know about him?


1. The name in the Greek means manly, strong, and heroic one. 2. His brother was Simon named Peter by Christ son of Jonas or John Matt. 16:17 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you Simon Barjona (Son of Jona)," and our passage. 3. His home town was Capernaum where he was a fisherman with his brother Peter Mark 1:21 And they went into Capernaum; and immdiately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and began to teach...v.29 And immedieately after they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew. Matt. 4:18 And walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two-borthers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen." 4. He was a disciple of John the Baptist Jn. 1:35-40. 5. He was called into fulltime training under Jesus Matt. 4:18-20, "v. 19 And He (Christ) said to them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of me. And they immediately left the nets and followed Him."Mark 1:16-17, "And as He was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the Brother of Simon casting a net in the sea, for they were fishermen." 6. He was one of the twelve disciples Matt. 10:2, "Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James the son of Zebedee; and John his brother." cf. Mark 3:18; Luke 6:14. 7. He asked Jesus about the judgment comeing on Jerusalem Mark 13:2,3, "And Jesus said to him, Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another which will not be torn down.v. 3 And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and james and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately, v. 4 Tell us, when will these things be; and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?" 8. He is still with the other apostles after the ascension of Christ Acts. 1:13, "And when they had entered they went up to the upper room where they were staying that is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James." 9. He was the first home missionary (as it were) Jn. 1:42 He brought him (Peter) to Jesus. and was also a foreign missionary Jn. 12:21,22 "v. 20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who were going up to worship at the feast. v. 21 these therefore came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee and began to ask him saying Sir, we wish to see Jesus," v. 22 Philip came and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip came and they told Jesus." 10. Tradition records he died in Achaia, which si a small region of Greece, on the south coast of the Gulf of Corinth.
