Introduction The Drama Competition serves as a platform for students and teachers to promote and demonstrate creative ideas in their work. Drama motivates students to use English and therefore, their command of the language can be improved. It is hoped that Drama themes such as peace, prosperity, love, sacrifice, dynamism, integration and/or historical events can instill values amongst students to be more sensitive and appreciative towards local art.

To encourage students to appreciate drama as it promotes integration and inculcates moral values. To provide the opportunity for students and teachers to exhibit their talents and creativity in the art of dramatization; the usage of English which incorporates script writing, directing, stage management and other technical aspects.
General Rules 3.1 This competition is open to all students from Form 1 to 5 in all government-aided schools. Each team comprises a maximum of 15 participants (including the technical crew: stage manager, technical coordinator, set and prop assistant) and two teachers-incharge. All team members must be from the same school. The winning team will represent the state at the zone level. The zone champion team will compete at the national level. Duration of stage performance is limited to 20 minutes. The drama must incorporate one of the following themes:3.5.1 3.5.2 3.5.3 3.5.4 3.5.5 Patriotism Love Socio-cultural Dynamism Harmony
3.5.6 Historical Events 3.5.7 Myth/Legend 3.6 Participating teams are encouraged to use original scripts. Nevertheless, translated scripts or interpretation of established plays are allowed. Drama scripts and synopsis should be typed using Font 12 Times New Roman on A4 paper and sent to the Organizing Committee two weeks before the competition proper. Guidelines 4.1 Language 4.1.1 It is compulsory to use English Language throughout the drama presentation. Nevertheless, limited use of certain Malay registers is allowed. 4.1.2 Use of vulgar words is strictly prohibited. 4.1.3 Scripts must not touch on sensitive issues such as ethnic slur, religion and personal issues. 4.2 Theme 4.2.1 The drama must portray the selected theme. This criterion will be evaluated through the script and presentation. 4.2.2 Themes must not touch on political issues, racism, government policies (except beneficial policies), religious issues (except those with moral values) and other sensitive issues.

Costumes 4.3.1 Participants should wear appropriate and decent clothes that suit the characters they portray.

Set and Props 4.4.1 Minimize use of set and props. 4.4.2 The set should be stable and its arrangement should not hinder the movement of the team members on stage. 4.4.3 The use of sharp objects (such as knives, keris, etc.), flame and dangerous chemical substance is prohibited. 4.4.4 Each team is encouraged to have a crew on duty for the set and props. 4.4.5 Ensure safety of the set and props used. Please clear the waiting area to ensure that no equipment is lost or is a hindrance to the next team.

Music 4.5.1 Each team must have technical assistant/s to coordinate matters regarding music. 4.5.2 Each team should have their own cassettes and/or CDs and operate the cassette and/or CD player if use of music is required in the script.
4.6
Lighting and Additional Equipment for Special Effects 4.6.1 Participants can utilize their own additional equipment. However, the equipment used must be suitable on stage and does not disrupt the flow of the drama presentation. 4.6.2 Each team must have a crew on duty to coordinate matters regarding lighting and special effects.
4.7
Mannerism 4.7.1 Participants are reminded not to portray indecent actions, excessive movements that might anger the audience or portray actions that might be interpreted as indecent or negative. 4.7.2 The presentation should take into account the comfort and safety of the audience and actors.
4.8
Duration of Time 4.8.1 Each team has 20 minutes to present their drama. Timing of the presentation starts with the first movement of or first word uttered by the actor/s. 4.8.1 Five minutes is allocated for the setting up of the set and props and another five minutes after the drama for the removal of the set and props.
4.9 Judging 4.9.1 There will be a panel of five judges for the state, zone and national level. 4.9.2 The result is based on the jury system. 4.9.3 The decision of the judges is final. 4.10 Prizes Prizes are awarded as follows:4.10.1 4.10.2 4.10.3 4.10.4 4.10.5 Champion First Runner-up Two Consolation Prizes Best Actor/Actress Best Script
