12 LoudounCountyPublicSchoolemployeeswillfacea5percentraiseintheirinsurance paymentwiththenewcutstothefiscal2013budget.SupervisorDr.EdgarHatrickpresented hisrecommendationstotheLoudounCountySchoolBoardApril10inordertocutanextra $22millionfromtheproposedbudget. Wewanttomakesuretheleastamountofimpactisintheclassroom,VicechairJill Turgeon(BlueRidge)said. AccordingtoHatrick,thebudgetwillonlyneedtobereducedby$10.5millionafterthe LoudounCountyBoardofSupervisorsappropriationsresolutiontotalling$3.4millionanda minimumofthestatesprojectedrevenueofjustover$8million.Statelegislatorswillfinalize theamountofprojectedrevenueinmidApril. Weleftthesalarystructurealone,wedidnotincreaseclasssizeandwedidnotmake dramaticchangestoprograms,Hatricksaid.Ithinkwegotyoutotheamountyouneedto gettowithoutharmingthechildrenoremployees. Atotaloftwoprogramsaresettobecutfromschoolsthatwillnotaffectcurrentstaff.One program,theelementarymathematicsfacilitatorswouldcut13positions,fiveofwhichare vacantandtheothereightwillbereassignedsaving$975,000.Theotherprogram,anSAT prepprogramwouldcutsixandahalffulltimeemployeesfromthatclass,whichwillbe reassignedtootherclassroomsinordertosave$487,000. Thecutsthatwemakearegoingtoimpactprograms,theymayimpactconveniences,they mayimpactmanythings.Beforeyouassumethecutsthatwemakearebecausewedontcare aboutstudentsorwedontcareabouteducation,thethingweareplacingaboveallelseisthe impactofeducationofallstudents,BillFox(Leesburg)said.Ithinkthatwereallin agreementthatwewantthesecutstobeminimizedontheimpactoftheeducationofthe studentsinLoudoun.Wewilldoourbesttoprotecttheimpactoftheeducationtoour students. Thetwoprogramsaffectedwouldbeincorporatedintogeneralstudiesinclassrooms.With theSATclass,itwouldlendahandtoafterschoolfeebasedactivitiesforstudents. Accordingtotheproposedcuts,33.9vacantpositionsaresettobecutthatwouldsavejust over$1.6million. Ifitsvacantrightnow,dowereallyneedit?Hatrickasked. Therewouldalsobeacutof74.5newpositionsresultingin$3.8millioninsavings. DebbieRose(Algonkian)saidshefelttheincreaseininsuranceratesseemedunfairtothe teacherswhowillnotbereceivingasubstantialpayincreaseforexamplethosewhohave showedloyaltytothecountyandremainedteachingformanyyears. Inotherreductions,arevisiontotheemployerandemployeehealthinsurancepremiumshare wouldincreaseby5percent.AccordingtoHatrick,doingthiswouldbringLCPScloserinline withotherschooljurisdictionsinVirginia. Whateveryourepayingrightnow[forinsurance]willbeincreased5percent,Hatricksaid. Otherreductionsbesidestheinsurancepaymentincrease,includesreducinginstructional technology,fundingsubstitutesinfiscal2012,eliminatingcompensationstudyandteacher insightscreeningprogramsandreducingbusdriverandattendantassignmentsortraining

Yes,therearemanystinkingrichfolksinLoudoun,butthatisnotthe majorityofus.Ihonestlydontcarehowthebudgetisallocatedaslongasit isntincreased.ThecollectiveLCPSstaffcommunityneedstolearntolivewith whattheyaregivenandgettheideaoutoftheirheadsthatataxincreaseis theanswertoallofourproblems. LCPSemployeespushingforataxincreasereadthepapers,watchCNBC, talktoyourneighborsinprivateindustry.Ifyoudo,youwilllearnthisisthe absoluteworsttimetooverburdenusnoraiseorunemployedfolkswitha heaviertaxburden. LCPSneedstolearntolivewithintheirmeansjustastherestofusdo.And forgoodnesssake,letsstopthiswhohasitworselunacy.Itsasilly discussionatatimewherewearelackingplayersinthesmartsolutions game.
