By contracting with a single hauler, Woodbridge resi dents receive a discounted rate forbothservices.Thebaserate for curbside trash is $39 per quarterand recycling is $11.25. heWichitaPoliceDepartmentPatrolWestBureauiswarningresidents thatofficerswillbestrictlyenforcingtrafficviolationsattheintersec tionsof21st/Maizeand13th/Ridge.OfficerLoriKimrey,ourCommunity PolicingofficerforBeat19,notesinhercurrentnewsletterthatsheunder standsthattheleveloffrustrationisontherisebecauseofalltheconstruc tionworkinthearea.Findingalternativeroutesisthebestwaytodeal withtheconstruction. Ifyouhavetodrivethroughtheconstructionareas,pleasekeep inmindthattherearenoleftturnspostedat21standMaize Roadandat13thandRidgeRoad.Also,thespeedlimitsare reducedto30MPH.Remember,finesincreaseinworkzones! OfficerKimreyasksthatwefindalternateroutesaroundthe constructionareaswhenpossible.Thismayresultinutilizingresidentialside streets.Therefore,itsimportanttokeepinmindthatresidentialstreets havea30MPHspeedlimit.And,watchoutforchildrenplayingandriding bikes.

This time of year garage doors inevitably remain open as chil dren play and homeowners tend to their chores. Criminals understand this all too well. Theft from open garage doors increase in the spring and sum mer. Be smart and be safe. Keep your garage doors shut whenyourenotintheimmedi atearea.

Aftertherepairworkiscomplete,acitycontractorwillconstructaslurry seal,ormicrosurfacing,overlayonthethroughstreetsandculdesacs.The overlaywillprovideanewwearingsurfacethathasincreasedskidresistance, whichmeansitwillhaveaslightlyroughertexturethanweareusedtosee ing.Itwillalsohelpsealoutmoisture,preventingwaterfromleakingthrough thepavementintothesubgrade,whichcausespavementfailures.Thissec ondphasewilloccurinthesummer,probablyinJuneorJuly. heboardofdirectorsdevelopedandpublishedamember surveybackinDecember2010.Throughout2011weasked memberstotakeafewminutestofillouttheonlinesurveyand providevaluablefeedback.Weevenpublishedahardcopyofthe surveyintheApril2011WHOAnewslettertoencourageparticipationfromall members.Justunder20%ofthemembershipresponded. IntheAugust2011newsletter,wereportedthethencurrentresultsfromthe survey.Thoseresultshavenotchanged.Themajorityofrespondentsareinter estedinextendingthesidewalkfullyaroundthepond.Thisprojectisfollowed ininterestbyimprovingtheentrancemonument(s).Interestinconstructinga smallplaygroundwasnext,withhalfoftherespondentsnotinterestedatall. Respondentswereleastinterestedinconstructingawallalong21stStreet,with twothirdsofthemreportingtheywerenotinterestedinthisprojectatall. Thesurveyalsoaskedaboutfundingfortheseprojects.Almost60%wantto temporarilyincreasethegeneralduesforafewyearstopayforasingleproject. Theremainingrespondentsweresplitbetweenaonetimespecialassessment andapermanentincreaseingeneraldues. Otherquestionsaskedaboutsnowremovalforthesidewalkalong21stStreet andeventsforNationalNightOut.Inbothcases,75%feltourresourceswere neededelsewhere. Wearepleasedtoannouncethatthatweareindeedworkingwithafive memberboard.StacyWoodson,amemberfromCovingtonCircle,accepted anominationattheallmembermeeting,asdidthefourcurrentboard membersservingin2011. AttheJanuaryboardmeetingtheboardmemberswereassignedtoserve thefiveofficerpositions.StacyassumedthedutiesofMemberatLarge. LynnPackerwillserveonefinalyearaspresident.NathanBrownellwillonce againserveasvicepresident.JoeRongishhasservedasthetreasurersince 2009,andwillcontinuetodosoin2012.CrystalGideon,whowasappointed totheboardinJune2011tofillavacancy,willserveastheSecretary.
