OBJECTIVE The kind of employment you are seeking and your primary qualificationstwo lines maximum.

(Heres the basic formula: [Mechanical engineering OR Project engineering OR IT OR Technical Sales] career opportunity applying X, Y, and Z. The value of XYZ = your top 24 qualifications for that jobexperience, skills, knowledge areas.)

EDUCATION The Ohio State University Columbus, OH B.S. _____________ Engineering, Month Year (of your graduation) Overall GPA: 0.00; Major GPA: 0.00 (4.00 scale) (You can list both or just the highest of the two.) QUALIFICATIONS (Choose a section heading that fits you. Some people prefer SKILLS. For some, COMPUTER SKILLS fits.) Since your experience is limited, you must invest extra thought into describing the value of your education. Be sure to highlight key coursework areas, technical electives, and any specialization. Include key words--list specific technical skills and knowledge areas that support your objective, but dont just list course titles. Include engineering tools, specific software, hardware, instrumentation, programming languages, platforms, etc. Include non-technical skills that might be beneficial (ex: fluent verbal Spanish). Avoid bragging with fancy adjectives (great skills in ). You can include honors, scholarships, and/or awards received here or in a separate Honors section. You can list engineering organizational membership (ex: American Society of Civil Engineers, Treasurer) here if your role was applicable to your objective. Otherwise, you might want to have a section called Campus Activities, or Honors and Activities. PROJECT EXPERIENCE Since your education is your key qualification, you should describe what you did in major class projectstwo to three lines per project. Describe each one as seriously as you would describe a job. Give your challenge, action, and results. List the year completed. Doing this gives you an opportunity to let the employer know what youve accomplished as a student in more concrete terms than simply listing your GPA or listing key coursework topics. Project team roles also should be described similarly to jobs (ex: Future Truck Team member, 2004: Responsible for). EXPERIENCE Organization Name, City, State Position or Title (Month Year to Month Year) List responsibilities and accomplishments. If your job is totally unrelated to engineering, think about what you did or learned that is transferable and focus on that. Dont just list duties. Use quantitative information if possible (ex: Supervised five employees or Increased sales by 30%). You can include your class, labs, or other relevant projects in this section (see sample). Begin phrases with action words (ex: Supervised, Operated, Planned, Performed, etc.). ACTIVITIES & INTERESTS (This section is optional; perhaps you need this space for something else.) Community activities and/or volunteer work can go here, or you can list student activities. Hobbies and career-related interests can go here, if related in some way to your objective. This resume format would fit a student with little or no work experience.
(Note: Delete this box and all other instructional text! Watch font size. Type your name on the top line; allow 1 top margin. This format is scannable. You can change anything about the content that would be appropriate, but we do not recommend changing font, font size, margins, or lengthstick to one page if you are a B.S. candidate; two pages if you are an M.S. candidate. If you have just one address, list just once--see the Scarlet Anne Grey example.)
