FROM HER POINT OF VIEW SCENE: 1 INT. CLASSROOM-EARLY AFTERNOON SLOW CLASSICAL MUSIC (FADE OUT) (SCARLETT STAYS AFTER CLASS TO TALK TO THE TEACHER.) SOUND: BELL RING, KIDS WALKING OUT MR.CHIVES: Alright kids, read up to chapter 10 in your books for next class!....Oh, Scarlett Malvin! Stay behind please, I have to talk to you. SCARLETT: Yes Mr.Chives. ESTHER: I will wait outside, Okay? SCARLETT: Okay! SOUND: KIDS WALKING FADE OUT MR.CHIVES: Scarlett, I want to talk to you about your academic level. SCARLETT: (whisper) Uh oh. MR.CHIVES: You are an extremely intelligent girl, which is very un-common these days. I think you should move up a year. SCARLETT: Oh, okay. MR.CHIVES: Your the smartest student in the year and I think you would do well with the 10th years. I will be talking to your parents about this next. SCARLETT: Well, Mr.Chives, I dont want to be rude, but...if you move me up a year everyone will think I am weird and I get enough of that already. Cant I just do extra work?

MR.CHIVES: I...guess...you could but, if you move up a year, you will be with people with at the same academic level as you and that will get you into a good college! SCARLETT: Thank you Mr.Chives, but there is no way I can go to college with my little sister and the farm, so I might as well stay in the 9th year! SOUND: SCARLETT STANDING UP MR.CHIVES: Fine, fine. Well, here is your extra work. SOUND: PICKING UP BOOKS GIVING THEM TO SCARLETT SCARLETT: Thank you Mr.Chives and sorry to disappoint you! SOUND: SCARLETT RUNNING OUT DOOR MR.CHIVES: Bye Scarlett! SOUND: DOOR CLOSE (END SCENE) SCENE 2: EXT. AND INT. FARM-LATE AFTERNOON SOUND: KIDS LEAVING SCHOOL ESTHER: Hey! Scarlett, over here! SCARLETT: Hey, thanks for waiting. ESTHER: No problem! So, what did Mr.Chives want? SCARLETT: Oh he just wanted to know if I wanted to move up a year. ESTHER: What? You cant! What did you say? SCARLETT: I told him that I just want to stay in this year and get extra work.

ESTHER: Good, I mean your not gonna go to college or anything so... you made the right choice. SCARLETT: Thanks blondy! ESTHER: Your welcome brunette! SOUND: ESTHER AND SCARLETT LAUGHING (THEY ARRIVE AT SCARLETTS HOUSE) LILLIAN: (SHOUT) SCARLETT? COME IN SIDE DEAR!) SCARLETT: Bye Esther! ESTHER: Bye Scarlett! SOUND: GATE OPENING AND CLOSING SCARLETT: Coming! SOUND:(GET INSIDE HOUSE) LILLIAN: Hi, how was school? SCARLETT: Ummm...good! LILLIAN: Okay, well I have to talk to you and your sister! SCARLETT: Alright! SOUND:(CHAIRS MOVING AROUND TABLE) LILLIAN: Rose, come down stairs! ROSE: Coming! SOUND: STEPS COMING DOWN STAIRS AND MORE MOVING CHAIRS

SCARLETT: Wheres father? LILLIAN: Well, (sniffles) thats what I would like to talk to you about. SCARLETT: Mother, where is father?!? LILLIAN: Dont speak to me with that tone! (Pause) (Quietly) he has been taken away. ROSE: What? Why, Where, How? LILLIAN: That doesnt matter, what matters is that you cant go to school until he...ummm...comes back. SCARLETT: But mother-? LILLIAN: No! You two have to help me with the house, and thats that! SOUND: LILLIAN WALKS AWAY CRYING, THEN SILENCE ROSE: Wheres Papa? SCARLETT: None of our concern! (END SCENE) SCENE 3: INT. MIDNIGHT NARRATOR: Scarlett isnt exactly sure why her father was taken away, but she has an idea of what it could be. There have been rumours of war drifting around the small village of Finchly, but Scarlett didnt believe them. Now, with Scarlett, Rose, and Lillian in there small bedroom, Scarlett cant help but wonder if it really is a war?!? SOUND: FROGS, CRICKETS MAKING NOISE

SCARLETT: Mother? Are you awake? LILLIAN: Shhh, dont wake your sister. SCARLETT: Mother, why did Papa leave? (LONG PAUSE) LILLIAN: (SNIFFLE) You know why. SOUND: SCARLETT GASPS SOUND: SUDDEN BOOM IN THE DISTANCE LILLIAN: Oh no! SOUND: CLOSER BOOM NEAR BY! LILLIAN: Up! Everybody up, NOW! SOUND: SCRAMBLING OUT OF BED ROSE: Whats going on?!? SOUND: ANOTHER BOOM IN THE VILLAGE! LILLIAN: Run! RUN! RUN! SOUND: RUNNING OUTSIDES SCARLETT: Come one Rose! SOUND: DOOR OPENING, FIRE AND PEOPLE SCREAMING LILLIAN: In here! SOUND: OPENING OF SQUEAKY DOOR LILLIAN: Quickly get inside!

SCARLETT: Esther! Esther quickly come hear! ESTHER: Scarlett! SOUND: RUNNING IN MUD, BUT THEN HUGE BOOM SCARLETT: Esther! ESTHER! NO ESTHER! NOOOO! SOUND: CRYING, BOMB SHELTER DOORS SLAM SHUT! SCARLETT: ESTHER!!! (fade out) (END SCENE) SCENE 4: INT. NO TIME, BOMB SHELTER NARRATOR: Its cold and dark down in the bomb shelter, there are insects and rats everywhere! Lillian has prepared for this event and has stored little food and blankets down in the dark shelter. And though they have each other to comfort and talk to, they feel more alone than ever... SOUND: DRIP DROP AND TINY BOOMS IN THE BACKGROUND SCARLETT: Shes gone. Esthers gone. SHES GONE!! SOUND: CRYING LILLIAN: There, there. Shhhh SOUND: COUGHING FROM LILLIAN ROSE: You dont sound good Mamma? LILLIAN: Yes I am fine its just a little cough. NARRATOR: But, as time goes on Scarletts mother gets really sick. Scarlett and Rose have nothing to cure her since they are under ground and are unable of going to the surface. All Scarlett and Rose can do is sit there and watch as their mother slowly dies... SOUND: COUGHING FROM LILLIAN (CONTINUED)

SCARLETT: Heres your cold tea Mamma. LILLIAN: thank youSOUND: ON-GOING COUGHING SCARLETT: Do you need another blanket LILLIAN: No, no. Its fine. Accch this silly coughing is going to wake Rose! SCARLETT: She wont mind...Mamma? Are going to be okay? LILLIAN: Of course I amSOUND: COUGH SCARLETT: Really? SOUND: SIGH LILLIAN: I hope so... (1 WEEK LATER) SOUND: REALLY BAD COUGHING AND BREATHING SCARLETT: Mamma? Did you throw up again? Do you need anything? LILLIAN: (QUIET AND SCRATCHY VOICE) No, no. (LONG PAUSE) SCARLETT: When can we go outside again? LILLIAN: I dont know... (PAUSE)

CONTINUED: SCARLETT: When will we see Papa again? (SILENCE) SCARLETT: Mamma...? Mamma?! SOUND: STANDING UP AND WALKING SCARLETT: Oh no...Mamma? MAMMA?! MAMMA NO PLEASE!! SOUND: CRYING ROSE: Whats wrong? Why are you crying? SOUND: WALKING AND THEN SNIFFING SCARLETT: Shes gone... ROSE: No! Mamma...? Mamma! SOUND: CRYING (END SCENE)

SCENE 5: INT. AND EXT. DAYTIME, SHELTER AND OUTSIDE SCARLETT: We cant stay down here she will rot and get us both diseased. (SILENCE) ROSE: Okay SCARLETT: Come on... SOUND: WALKING UPSTAIRS AND OPENING OF DOOR SCARLETT: This is it, are you ready? ROSE: Yeah SOUND: UNLOCKING OF DOOR AND CREAKY OPENING (CONTINUED)

SCARLETT: ahh its so bright! SOUND: ROSE GASP ROSE: Its gone. Its all gone! Everything is black and...dead! SOUND: SCARLETT LETS OUT A SMALL SCREAM SCARLETT: Esther... SOUND: KNEELING DOWN IN MUD SCARLETT: She was so close to the shelter!! She could have made it! Now look at her she is just a lump of dirt and skin! SOUND: CRYING ROSE: I am so sorry Scarlett. But, we have to find food and people...we should go... SOUND: SNIFFING SCARLETT: I know. SOUND: WALKING IN MUD FADING OUT IN THE DISTANCE (END SCENE) SCENE 6: EXT. DAYTIME WOODS NARRATOR: As Scarlett and Rose trudge along through the woods they start to slow down and struggle because of the lack of food and water. It has been 3 months since the bombing and the girls have been living off wild berries and muddy water for 3 months. The news of the bombing on the outside of London, had managed to reach the military camps and some people were coming home to take their family (if they had any) to a safe camp. WALKING IN MUD AND SLOWING DOWN UNTIL ROSE FALLS IN MUD

SCARLETT: Oh, come on Rose! SOUND: HELPING ROSE GET OUT OF MUD ROSE: Thanks SCARLETT: We have to find water...and food. ROSE: Hey ScarlettSCARLETT: Oh food...nice bread and butter... ROSE: Scarlett-! SCARLETT: With cheese and milk and roasted beef with gravy... ROSE: SCARLETT!! SCARLETT: What? ROSE: Look! (SMALL PAUSE) SCARLETT: Oh my Lord! ROSE: Train tracks! There are TRAIN TRACKS!!! SCARLETT: Follow them!!! SOUND: RUNNING ON STONES ROSE: Run! RUN! SOUND: RUNNING ON CONCRETE

SCARLETT: Were here! POST GUARD: STOP RIGHT THERE!!! SOUND: RUNNING STOPS SCARLETT: Please sir, we come from the town of Finchly! We have not had food or water for months! Our mother is...dead. We just need some helpPOST GUARD: Stop! How do I know your not German Spies? ROSE: We are kids! POST GUARD: Exactly!! Easier to fool us!! SCARLETT: Please sir we are dying! POST GUARD: You will have to go through security and get asked a lot of...questions! SCARLETT: Fine! POST GUARD: Tim, take these girls to security!! TIM: Sir, yes, sir! (AFTER GIRLS HAVE GONE THROUGH SECURITY) SECURITY GUARD: Thank you for your patience. There is a train coming soon with more soldiers and there is food and water over there by cooks. SCARLETT: Thank you. SOUND: RUNNING OVER TO TABLE OF FOOD EATING AND DRINKING

ROSE: This is amazing!! SOUND: TRAIN PULLING IN SCARLETT: Quickly get all the food you can hold and lets go see...! SOUND: RUNNING ROSE: I dont see him! SCARLETT: Hell come... NARRATOR: But no one comes...and after hours of waiting and eating, the girls decide to find some beds in the shelter. (END SCENE) SCENE 7: EXT. MORNING, STATION TIM: (WHISPER) Scarlett! Rose! Wake up! SCARLETT: What? Who are you? TIM: I am Tim. The last train is coming in half an hour. Get dressed. SCARLETT: How do you know my name? TIM: Just get dressed. SCARLETT: Rose! Wake up Rose. ROSE: Hmmm yeah. Im awake. TIM: Come on! SOUND: TIM RUNNING OFF (CONTINUED)

ROSE: Whos he? SCARLETT: Some military boy. His name is Tim. ROSE: Ohhhh Tiiiim! Scarlett and Tim sittin in a tree, K.I.S.SSCARLETT: Shut up! SOUND: RUNNING TO STATION SCARLETT: Hi. TIM: Hi. SCARLETT: Why did you come and wake us up? TIM: I saw you waiting for a train with your father on it, but he never came. Then I saw you were not awake yet...so I woke you up. SCARLETT: Thank you. SOUND: TRAIN PULLING IN ROSE: Scarlett, take my hand! SCARLETT: Okay! TIM: (WHISPER) And you take mine! SCARLETT: Okay! SOUND: TRAIN STOPPING, FATHERS GETTING OFF AND HUGGING THEIR FAMILIES

ROSE: Where is he? SCARLETT: I dont know! (WAITING FOR A WHILE) SOUND: TRAIN LEALVING ROSE: No! Where is he? NO... SOUND: CRYING IN SCARLETTS ARMS SCARLETT: Its okay shhh... there there...shh! He is in a better place now. FATHER: Scarlett! Rose! SCARLETT! ROSE! ROSE: PAPA! PAPA! SCARLETT: FATHER! PAPA! ALL HUGGING AND CRYING! FATHER: My babies! Wheres your mother? ROSE: Shes gone papa! FATHER: Oh no...shhh SOUND: MORE CRYING FATHER: Dont worry I am never letting you go again! Never! SOUND: TIM WALKING AWAY SCARLETT: Tim wait! SOUND: KISS ON THE CHEEK
