Academic Year : 2012/2013 Semester Class Time : 1st : 40 minutes

A. Standard of Competency Using concepts and basic principlesof kinematics and dynamics of the dot object

B. Basic Competency Analyze the physical quantities on the motion with constant velocity and acceleration

C. Indicators/Objectives Applying physical quantities in the motion in two dimensions equations and use them in problem solving

D. Sources/References/Materials/Equipment Mechanics Book of Zambak Publisher Topic: Motion in Two Dimensions

E. Teaching and Learning Process No. Activities Duration (minutes) 1. Introduction Teacher greets the students Teacher checks the students who is absent Teacher guides the students to collect the homework Teacher guides the students to review the lesson matter on the previous meeting 2. Main Activities Teacher explains about objects thrown 5 Interview and Discussion Method(s)

horizontally Teacher gives a problems and show the way how to solve the problems Teacher gives a problems and students find the way to solve the problems by teacher guidance Students do the practice for different problems Teacher observes the students and gives guidance if there are some questions 3. Review/Summary Teacher gets the feedback from students about a lesson today 5 Interview and Discussion 30 Interview and Discussion

F. Lesson Matter On the Chapter 1, we have learned about vector. So, we can get initial velocity in x and y components as following :

v0 x v0 cos
v0 y v0 sin
2 2 v2 vx vy

We have proved some equations in motion in one dimension that also used in projectile motion as following: a. In the horizontal direction Motion with constant velocity

x v0 x cos t

b. In the Vertical direction Motion with constant acceleration

v y v0 y gt 1 v0 v t 2 1 y v0 y t gt 2 2 2 2 v y v0 y 2 g y y

For Examples: Questions : 1. A ball is thrown at 10 m/s horizontally from the top of a building, 80 m high. Find the following

a. The time of flight of the ball. (4s) b. The distance away from the base of the building that the ball strikes the ground. (40 m) c. The velocity of the ball just before it strikes the ground. (41.2 m/s, -76o) d. The angle the ball makes with the horizontal after a time of 1 s. (-45o) 2. A military plane which flies at a velocity of 250 m/s at a height of 2000 m, drops a bomb as it approaches a target and strikes it,as shown in the figure.

a. How many seconds after being dropped does the bomb strike the target? (20 s) b. How many metres away is the target from the vertical projection of the point where the bomb is released, x? (5000 m) c. What is the height of the bomb 5 s after being dropped? (1875 m) d. What type of motion does the bomb appear to have to the pilot? (freefall from rest ) Evaluation: 1. A plate is pushed horizontally over a 80 cm high table, as shown in the figure. If it lands at a point 120 cm away from the table.

a. Find the time the plate takes to land on the floor. (0.4 s) b. What is the initial velocity of the plate? (3 m/s) c. At what velocity does the plate strike the floor? (5 m/s, -53.13o) 2. An electron is launched at a horizontal velocity of 3.107 m/s, as shown in the figure. How many metres should the electron travel in the horizontal direction in order to have a declination of 45 cm? (9.106 m)

3. To extinguish a fire on the fourth floor of a building, a fireman squirts water into the window of the fourth floor, from a point 24 m away from the building, as shown in the figure. The water rushes out of the hose pipe at a velocity of 20 m/s, making an angle of 53o with the horizontal. If the fireman holds the pipe 1 m above the ground

a. How many seconds does it take for the water to reach the window? (2 s) b. What is the height of the fourth floor window from the ground? (13 m) c. What is the velocity of the water at the moment it enters the window? (12.7 m/s , -18.4o) 4. An object is thrown horizontally from an altitude with an initial speed of 12 m/s. When it makes an angle of 60o with the horizontal a. What is the x component of its velocity? (12 m/s) b. What is the velocity of the object? (24 m/s) c. What is the y component of its velocity? (20.8 m/s) d. How long does it take before it makes an angle of 60o with the horizontal? (2.1 s)
