1.0 Executive Summary

A mouse as we all know is a hand controlled electronic device that is used to control coordinates of a cursor on your computer screen, as you move it around on what is called a mouse pad. On the bottom of the device is a trackball that rolls on the surface of the mouse pad. Over the years the laser mouse was designed to use a laser beam instead of a ball to track the movements of the users hand. Although this piece hardware serves the purpose (controls coordinate) when using a PC/ Laptop, it also causes serious issue such as repetitive strain injury. This usually occurs due to long hours of mouse usage, or usage of the mouse on a daily basis. In order to solve this problem I believe that the four arms, palms and the wrist should attain a resting position when using a mouse. A solution to this would be what I call the Hand held wireless sensor mouse.

2.0 Objective Statement

The Hand held wireless sensor mouse would be designed in a manner where the users would be able to use a mouse for long hours on a daily basis and prevent/ reduce unnecessary physical injuries.

5.2 Force Fitting Triggers

Force Fitting triggers is a method of providing visual stimuli to help spark off ideas in peoples mind. The idea is to force-fit combinations or various attributes that one associates with an unrelated object to the problem. It requires the combination of items one would not think about combining together for new possibilities, where at first glance the items have nothing to do with the problem. In short it is looking at one thing and seeing something else.

5.3 Mind mapping

Mind mapping is a highly effective methodology of getting information in and out of a persons brain. It extracts the creative and logical means of note taking and note making where by ideas are literally mapped out.

Mind maps have natural organizational structures that radiates from the centre and use lines, symbols and words according to simple, brain friendly concepts. Mind maps convert long lists of boring information into a colorful, memorable and highly organized diagram that works alongside an individuals brains and ways of doing things.

5.3.1 Illustration of Mind Mapping The following diagram illustrates the mind mapping technique used to generate ideas for a computer mouse.

5.4 Concept fans

The concept fans a way of finding different approaches to a problem when all the other obvious solutions have been rejected. It develops the principles of taking a step back to get a broader perspective of the problem. This technique was developed by Edward de Bono where by the obvious ideas didnt really help. The idea was to get a broader perspective to the problem and so there will be a new view to the problem and new ways of solving the problem.

5.5 Evaluation
The techniques that were used in order to generate ideas were attribute listing, force fitting triggers, mind mapping and concept fans. These techniques helped me gain ideas to a better solution in order to come with an innovative solution. Attribute listing was quite effective and laid out various combinations of ideas in order to come up with solutions. Force fitting triggers didnt really help me generate sufficient innovative ideas although it may have provided valid ideas for a final product. Mind mapping on the other hand guided me in direction and opened up solutions to the specific problem. Concept fan was a very effective technique as it magnifies the problem and allowed me to look for ideas beyond solutions. According to the problem these four techniques were very useful and came in handy to find solutions, where as the Lotus blossom and Scamper methods were not really convincing to satisfy the problem statement.

Comparison on the Competitors The hand held wireless mouse features various safety methods for the user where as the competitor computer mices fail to do so. The Microsoft arc mouse allows users to track on any virtual surface and provides the first scroll strip where as the hand held wireless mouse provides that as well as better safety for the user. Unlike the 3D mouse which could be used for travelling and is small enough to be stored in card slots, the hand held wireless mouse may not be so small but can be worn and allow the user to type while navigating the mouse pointer. The hand held wireless mouse use solar power whereby there wouldnt be an additional charge for batteries or USB cable to connect to the PC. The first wireless mouse with free means of power, a feature none of the competitors use. The hand held wireless mouse is a free size and comes in different sizes where by any user can purchase the product according to their fit. It has its own custom designs, themes and offers a variety to pick from for the users. The competitive mouse consists of limited designs and themes and has only a few ranges of choice to be chosen from for their customers.

6.1 DICE Concept

Concept 1. Deep Benefits to Customers When end users use a computer mouse they fail to realize the consequences of Repetitive strain injuries they can face. The hand held wireless mouse provides a wrist guard and a palm rest for users to prevent from excessive RSI. They could use it for long hours on a daily basis and prevent themselves from being injured. One functionality no other mouse would provide to their users. 2. Intelligent Customers who buy products such as a wireless mouse fail to understand that a battery change is either required every 3 weeks or 6 months. The cost of using that mouse is high on the long run. The hand held wireless mouse extracts energy from the suns heat and saves battery power to enable users to use for long hours. We all know sun light is a free source of energy and does not require any cost. This would be a sensible option to save money on the long run when using a wireless product. 3. Complete A new experience for users such as gamers where multi tasking would be very easy. Typing and using the mouse would be faster as the mouse is worn in the users hands. 4. Elegant Its very simple to use and could be designed in a very stylish way where themes could be used according to the customers requirement. Comes in different styles and shapes. A different glove, a different mouse and an entirely new experience for the customers.
