ABSTRACT
Blu-ray Disc (official abbreviation BD) is an optical disc storage medium designed to supersede the DVD format. The plastic disc is 120 mm in diameter and 1.2 mm thick, the same size as DVDs and CDs. Blu-ray Discs contain 25 GB per layer, with dual layer discs (50 GB) being the norm for feature-length video discs. Triple layer discs (100 GB) and quadruple layers (128 GB) are available for BD-XL re-writer drives.

The name Blu-ray Disc refers to the blue laser used to read the disc, which allows information to be stored at a greater density than is possible with the longer-wavelength red laser used for DVDs. Optical disks share a major part among the secondary storage devices. Blu-ray Disc is a next generation optical disc format. Data is stored on Blu-Ray disks in the form of tiny ridges on the surface of an opaque 1.1-millimetre-thick substrate. This lies beneath a transparent 0.1mm protective layer. With the help of Blu-ray recording devices it is possible to record up to 2.5 hours of very high quality audio and video on a single BD. Blu-ray also promises some added security, making ways for copyright protections. Blu-ray disc scan have a unique ID written on them to have copyright protection inside the recorded streams. Blu-ray disc takes the DVD technology one step further, just by using a laser with a nice color.
