Blooms Taxonomy of Academic Behaviors

Professor Benjamin Bloom of Harvard University created a framework for organizing the various learning activities we demand of children. He conceptualized six levels which are organized from simple to complex. The more complex the level, the more there is a requirement to rely on previous levels of mastery. However, educators have found that many students who have not necessarily mastered the knowledge level (in the form of reciting facts) can show profound understanding when asked to apply or analyze or evaluate. Teachers are therefore encouraged to make sure that their learners are stimulated with lessons that include all six levels of Blooms Taxonomy of Active Learning Verbs.
