7.R.1 - Use physical objects, drawings, charts, tables, graphs, symbols, equations, or objects created using technology as representations. 7.S.1 Identify and collect data using a variety of methods. 6.S.5 Determine the mean, mode, and median for a given set of data.

Technology Standards (ISTE)

1) Creativity and Innovation - Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes. 6) Technology Operations and Concepts - Understand and use technology systems - Select and use applications effectively and productively Objectives: The student will learn the definitions of mean, median, and mode. -The student will be able to find the mean, median, and mode for a given set. -The student will be able to make a bar graph using chartmaker.mathwarehouse.com - The student will be able to compute the mean, median, and mode for a given set using Microsoft excel Learning Activity/ Getting Started: The student will have previously read the section on mean, median, and mode from the textbook.

Bell Ringer
1) What does mean, median, and mode stand for? -Each student will think about the definitions of these terms. We will then come together as a class and discuss them. Information: The teacher will allow students to voluntarily answer the bell ringer and write it on the board. The Teacher will then discuss what each would be used for and the correct definitions to each. The teacher will then provide examples of each of the following terms: Mean, Median, and Mode Ex 1) {20,40,30,60,30,50,60} Ex 2) {70,60,40,20,20,20,90} Ex 3) {2,3,4,5,6,8,8,0} Ex 4) {12,24,68,54,34,12,14} Ex 5) {2,2,4,4,6,6,8,9,7}

Practice: The students will be given a set of numbers in which they are to find the mean, median, and mode for.
Once they have found these, they will open Microsoft excel spreadsheet and check their answers using the mean, median, and mode buttons. Once they have completed this and checked their answers, they will then go to chartmaker.warehouse.com and construct a bar graph with the mean, median, and mode that they found. A worksheet will be handed out to assist students with this practice exercise. Knowledge of Result: The teacher will give students approx. 10 minutes to complete the individual task and then as a class the correct answers will be discussed. Homework will be assigned and graded. Review: To conclude class and review the material, the teacher will ask 3 questions to the entire class. 1) Would you use mean, median, or mode to figure out the average test score for the class? 2) Would you use mean, median, or mode to figure out what the middle grade on the test was? 3) Would you use mean, median, or mode to figure out what the most popular soda among the class is?

Assessment: Students will be given a homework assignment which will be graded. The following day the students
Will have a short quiz on mean, median, and mode.

Quiz
1)Define the following: Mean: Median: Mode: 2) True or False A) To Find the median, the given set of data has to be put in numerical order? B) To find the mean, you just add all of the numerical values up? C) The mean is used to fine the number that occurs most often? 3) Find the mean, median, and mode for the given set {30, 60, 90, 100, 50, 40, 60, 90, 60} Mean= Mode= Median=
