PRESS RELEASE

10th May, 2012

The criminal writ petition filed by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Tejinder Singh has been withdrawn today from the Supreme Court for recompiling the same and with liberty sought and granted by the Honble Court to the petitioner to re-file the same before appropriate forum including the Honble Supreme Court and Delhi High Court. After filling of the petition before the Honble Supreme Court seeking CBI inquiry in the illegal interception of mobile phone conversation of the defence ministry officers by the Army Head Quarter at the behest of General V.K. Singh, Tejinder Singh have been getting additional information and evidence from various quarters which needed to be compiled to include it as part of his petition before the apex court. In the wake of upcoming vacation of the Supreme Court and time needed to file a revised comprehensive petition, the present petition has been withdrawn. A fresh petition in this regard is likely to be filed before the Honble Delhi High Court before upcoming summer vacation. It is also to clarify that the Government has not yet ordered any inquiry in the alleged mobile phone interception by the Army HQ. In the written reply given to the questions raised by Sh. Manish Tewari of the Congress in the Lok Sabha on 26.03.2012 on unauthorisedly deployed phone tapping equipment called offthe-air interceptors at various places in Delhi the Defence Minister has replied that Government has not ordered an enquiry in to the same, and has also not denied the allegations. The petitioner is ex-Director General of the principal Defence Intelligence Agency of the Country, which is authorized to procure and deploy offthe-air interceptors for surveillance of mobile phones in insurgency hit Jammu & Kashmir. The petitioner as the then DG-DIA was privy of a plan of the Army Chief to illegally procure and deploy the same in Delhi to snoop over the mobile phone conversation of the defence ministry officer, but since nothing serious emerged out in front of him, he discarded the same as a mere freakish thought of the Army Chief. However after the media reports on 2-3rd March, 2012 alleging that Army HQ has been snooping over the Government using offthe-air interceptors, the Army Chief being scared that Tejinder Singh may come out with a statement against him, he pre-empted and issued a press communiqu on 5th March, 2012 leveling false allegations against Tejinder Singh. Though the said press communiqu sought to dispel the allegation of illegal mobile phone interception as mere fiction and factitious story, false allegations not connected with matter were made against Tejinder Singh to discredit him in the eye of Nation. After collecting certain corroborative evidence of illegal snooping activity of the Army Chief the petitioner presented the case before the Honble Supreme Court. Since thereafter the petitioner has been getting further evidences and information from various sources the present petition was withdrawn to include additional details and information.
