The Mountaineers will switch conferences on July 1, 2012, moving from the Big East to the Big 12. This will make The Mountaineers the conference's easternmost team, and first in the Eastern Time Zone. The school's mascot is the Mountaineer. "Hail, West Virginia" is the Mountaineers fight song. With a 70145745 record, West Virginia is the 14th most successful Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team of alltime, as well as the most successful FBS team to have never claimed nor won a National Championship. The Mountaineers have registered 79 winning seasons in their history, with 35 of those seasons resulting in eight victories or more, 17 seasons resulting in at least nine victories, and eight seasons with ten victories or more. The onset of the Dana Holgorsen era resulted in greater expectations for the program as the Mountaineers entered the 2011 season. The potential for a strong offense under Holgorsen leadership combined with West Virginia's selection as the oddson favorite to win the Big East title provided a bright outlook for a return to a BCS bowl game for the first time since 2007.
