Notes on Internet Explorer Version 7:

The current W3C CSS standard is CSS 2.1. Historically each web browser has had its own styling standards. Each browser complies with as much of the W3C CSS standard as possible, while using its own standards for the rest. Over the years, most browsers have come close to 100% compliance with CSS 2.1 except for Internet Explorer. When designing web pages/applications, there is a decision to be made whether or not to use the standard CSS as defined by the W3C. Web pages that comply with standard CSS are said to run in standards mode. The other option is to design web pages that conform to browser specific CSS. Pages that are designed this way do not translate between browsers. Web pages that comply with browser specific CSS standards are said to run in quirks mode. Progeny 8 Web is based on GWT 2.x which itself relies very heavily on widgets that are designed to support standard CSS. Progeny made a conscious decision to make our design comply with CSS 2.1, with an eye on CSS 3.0 which is fast becoming the standard. Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3.6+, Safari4+, and Google Chrome are almost fully compatible with the CSS 2.1 standard. The code produced this way is expected to work consistently in browsers across operating systems. If it works in Firefox on Windows it will work in Firefox on the Macintosh platform as well. Internet Explorer 7, by Microsofts own admission, has CSS 2.1 support near 60%. A document designed to W3C CSS standards works well in IE7 approximately 60% of the time. Progeny 8 widgets and pages are constructed to comply with the CSS 2.1 standard. These pages/widgets are guaranteed to work in every browser that supports CSS 2.1 fully. Any CSS issues encountered will be minor and will easily be indentified during the QA process and can be easily fixed.
