The honeybee was designated the state insect of Mississippi on 1980. The Jackson Zoo is located Jackson, Mississippi. The Jackson Zoo has attracted people from across the state and beyond for more than 90 years. O: Oldest Person in Mississippi

A 113-yeared-old woman who was believed to be the oldest living African- American in the country has died. Known as Sweetie, Mississippi Winn died Friday at a Louisiana nursing home, said Milton Carroll, an investigator with the Caddo Parish coroners office. Robert Young of the Gerontology Research Group, which checks facts for the Guinness Book of World Records, said Winn who also believed to be the worlds seventh -oldest person. He said she was one of two known people left in the U.S. whose parents were both likely born into slavery.
