Horse Appearance: Clean shaven, Groomed and spit shined, mane, hooves, body appearance on the whole. Tack: Halter and Lead. How should it be placed on the horse (ie: halter should not be loose, lead should not have a super long chain etc.) Patterns How to determine where to stand by the cone according to a pattern. How to determine how many steps to back up to the cone to do a pivot How to decide whether to stand to the right or left of the cone before approaching the judge. How far away from the judge should I stop my horse? Other helpful hints when performing a pattern from a Judges perspective What is the biggest error you see participants make when doing patterns Dos Make sure clothing is crisp and clean, if wearing jeans make sure they are neatly pressed with no rips. Clean well shaped hat. Clean boots. Spit shined horse from head to toe Smile and look confident (even if you are nervous and scared) Study the pattern and practice with your horse before entering the show ring Keep showing even if you make a mistake (maybe the judge didnt see it) Continue showing until you are dismissed from the ring. Dont Do not over-show and/or be fake Dont wear excessive makeup/jewelry Dont enter the ring with unkempt clothing. Do not touch your horse at any time (this is different in halter classes) Dont give excessive cues (ie: cluck loudly or kiss etc) Dont touch the lead chain Dont yank on your horse. Question/Answers:
