Meteorologist

By: Jaylond Harvey 4/11/2012 rd 3 period

What is it?

Meteorology is the science of the atmosphere. It offers the opportunity of investigating the forces that shape weather and climate and how human activities can affect climate through the introduction of pollutants into the atmosphere.

Different Types of Meteorology

Weather forecasting Aviation meteorology Agricultural meteorology Hydro-meteorology Nuclear meteorology Maritime meteorology Military meteorology

What's a meteorologist?

Study the atmospheres physical characteristics, motions, and processes, and the way it affects the rest of our environment.

High School Classes...

High school students should take every mathematics, physics and computer course that is available. They should also develop basic skills in written and spoken English and/or French to communicate scientific knowledge.

My Top 5 School's

Jackson State University Georgia State University University of Georgia Florida State University University of South Alabama

Jackson State Requirements

1. Complete CPC with a minimum 3.20 GPA is exempted from ACT or SAT 2. Complete CPC with a minimum 2.50 GPA or be in the top 50% of class and 16 or higher ACT, or the SAT equivalent 3. Complete CPC with a minimum 2.00 GPA, and 18 ACT or the SAT equivalent.

Things They Do....

Work Activities...

There are two different categories a meteorologists work fall under: Forecasting Research

Forecasting...

collecting data from satellite images, radar, remote sensors and weather stations all over the world measuring factors such as air pressure, temperature and humidity at various atmospheric levels analyzing and presenting this information to customers in the form of weather briefings applying physical and mathematical relationships and sophisticated computer models to make short and longrange weather forecasts

Researching...

developing and improving numerical and computer models to predict atmospheric processes and improve the accuracy of forecasts monitoring climate variability and change researching seasonal forecasting, ocean forecasting and climate prediction monitoring and investigating changes in the stratosphere including the ozone layer; applying the results of research in order for example, to give flood warnings or estimate the likely effects of global warming.

Meteorologist Average Salary...

Your salary is determined by the following: Years Experience... What state you live in... What industry you are doing.. What degree and major you have..
