Introducing yourself
When you meet someone for the first time, you should greet each other and exchange names. In informal situations, you can greet the person by saying either Hi. or Hello. and then tell the person your first name [Hi, Im Kin. /Hello. My names Maria.]. Hi, Im ... is slightly less formal than Hello. My names ... . In more formal situations, you can say, How do you do? and then give your full name [How do you do? My names Maria Romano.]. It is considered polite to follow a greeting with Its nice to meet you. (or just Nice to meet you.). An appropriate response would be Nice to meet you, too. It is also polite to give a compliment and to express interest in the person. You might compliment his or her clothing or abilities [I like your jacket. Your English is very good .]. If you receive a compliment, you should thank the person and return the same compliment or respond with another. To express interest in the person, you can ask a question about the situation in which you meet [How long have you been studying English? ].

Maria: Hello. My names Maria. Nice to meet you. Kin: Nice to meet you, too. Where are you from?
Maria: Im from Italy. Ive been at this school for only two weeks. How about you? Kin: Oh, for about three years. How long have you been studying English?
Maria: I started studying English in Rome about two years ago. Kin: Just two years ago? Your English is really good!
Introducing yourself
You can introduce yourself by saying hello and giving your name. You can be polite by saying Nice to meet you. or Nice to see you. and giving compliments (saying something nice about the person).
Listen and repeat. Then work with a classmate and take turns saying each sentence using the words given.
