HotChalk Learning Environment User Guide

MyLibrary
MyLibrary is a global content-sharing system where educators can search digital content and resources. 1. MyLibrary enables users to easily correlate digital resources with lesson plans within the HotChalk Learning Environment. 2. The Search Field, located to the left, enables a simple keyword search within the entire collection of digital resources. 3. Featured MyLibrary Content Providers: Allows user to search through the individual content providers digital resources. 4. MyDesk Editorial Special Features: Allows users to search through the featured content that is available on MyDesk. 5. The Mini-Browser, located to the right, highlights digital content without performing a search and categorizes content as Featured, New Today, Popular Videos, and Popular Lesson Plans.

Keyword Search
1. 2. Within MyLibrary, enter keywords into the Search Field on the landing page. Click on the magnifying glass icon to the right OR hit Enter/ Return to perform a simple search.

Content Provider Search


1. 2. Within MyLibrary, click on the content provider you wish to search. Results will populate from the specific provider; follow the Narrow Your Search portion listed below to find the digital content you desire.

Results
The search results are organized into three areas (Narrow Your Search, Shown Results, and Related Media).
**NOTE: Click on the magnifying glass icon to the right of the Search Field OR hit Enter to perform another simple search.

Narrow Your Search


1. 2. Located on the left navigation, this is a type of Guided or Faceted Search to filter search results further. Click on My Subscription, Media Type, Subject, Grade Level, Language or Publisher to narrow results.
**NOTE: The number of search results for each search filter category is listed in parenthesis.

My Subscription filters by media or resources purchased by the school or district. Media Type filters by file type or file extension (ex. video, audio, .wma, .doc). Subject filters by subject area (Math, Science, U.S. History, etc.). Grade Level - filters materials available for specific grade levels (K-12). Publisher filters content by publisher material (National Geographic, McGraw Hill Education, etc.).

Previewing Content
Click on the title of the search result or the content producers icon to the left for a detailed description of the resource.
**NOTE: For a video preview, click on the producers icon to view a 30 second segment.

Integrating Digital Content


Choosing Content
1. Under each Search Result, is an option to link the resource into MyClasses via the Link to Media Tab. a. Provides a hyperlink to resource that has been previewed
**NOTE: Each link can be copied and pasted into the clipboard one at a time.

Under each Search Result, is an option to link the resource into MyClasses via the Add Tab. a. b. c. Click on tab for a dropdown menu to add the resource to specific classes or to the general resources. Media will be added to class and will be added by default to general resources. Click Close when resource has been successfully added.

Under each Search Result, is the option to download the resource to your computer. a. b. Click on the Download tab to save the content as a file on your computer. Downloading the file allows a user to view the video in Windows Media Player as a High Resolution file. Once the Download is complete and the user tries to view the video, they will be prompted to input their username and password to check and make sure they have an active account.

Embedding Content Within PowerPoint


1. 2. Within MyLibrary, enter keywords into the Search Field to perform a search. Once the desired clip has been found, click the clip title to view the content details page. Click on the Download button to download the content clip. Click High Resolution (Windows Media) to download the content to your Desktop. Open Microsoft PowerPoint. Within the desired slide, click Insert/ Media Clips/ Movie. Click to choose the playback options within PowerPoint including, when clicked or automatically. Upon playback, the DRM system (Digital Rights Management) will automatically prompt the input of the Username and Password to confirm ownership/ access to the content.
