About an optimum operation context
To guarantee an optimum operation context, you must observe the following rules:

Be compliant with line tuning rules:

Check that LDT (Line Tuning Table) guidelines have been implemented.

Check that Audit Tool results display a perfect match between LDT values
and actual values.

Perform NE instantaneous measurements after each network element upgrade.

COCE (Configuration Or Customization Error)

...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

COCE (Configuration Or Customization Error)

COCE (Configuration Or Customization Error)
Description

Probable Cause

Related Alarms

Indicates that ALCT or LOFA boards are working

out of acceptable range of value regarding laser
output power and optical attenuation.

COCE is an indication to inform that these devices

are currently not used as they have been designed
for typical use after network designer decision.

COCE does not necessarily imply any malfunction

or failure.

COCE alarm may be raised:

following particular tuning due to specific

configuration,

after line modification which implies a variation of

LOFA input power.

one.
Corrective Actions

On-Site Intervention Required

Yes, in certain circumstances.

Actions

1. If span loss is too high compared to the

specification, clean the connectors.
2. If the span loss is too low compared to the
specification (attenuators may have been forgotten),
adjust the value accordingly.
3. If the problem persists, contact Alcatel-Lucent
Support Team.
4. End.

IPD (Input Power Degraded)

...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

IPD (Input Power Degraded)

IPD (Input Power Degraded)
Description

A LOFA has detected a degraded incoming signal at

stage input.

Probable Cause

The input power at LOFA stage input is lower or higher

than the configured threshold value for this alarm.

Related Alarms

one.
Corrective Actions

On-Site Intervention Required

Depending on the fault location.

Actions

1. Check the mechanical aspect of the fiber

(Connection at stage input and fiber aspect).
2. Check that LOFA threshold value is set at the right
value according to the specific line context.
3. If the alarm persists, contact Alcatel-Lucent
Technical Support Team.

IPL (Input Power Loss)

...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

IPL (Input Power Loss)

IPL (Input Power Loss)
Description

Optical power loss at input port.

Traffic may be interrupted.

Probable Cause

Related Alarms

The fiber may be unplugged

The fiber between the impacted board and the previous transmission device may
be broken.

The transmitter of the previous transmission device may be in failure.

The following alarms may be raised:

LOS (Loss Of Signal) raised by OTS block,

LOMS (Loss Of Multiplex Section).

LOSC (Loss of Supervisory Channel)

URU (Underlying Resource Unavailable)

Corrective Actions

On-Site Intervention
Required

Yes.

Actions

1. Check the fiber connection.

2. If the problem persists, analyze the alarms (See Figure 1-1, Alarm Diagram
(p. 1-5).
If

a. URU alarm is raised, then a failure has occurred on the network element.
b. IPL and LOS from an OTS block are raised on the same network element,
then the reception fiber from the remote network element is broken.
In this case the network element detects a loss of multiplex section (LOMS)
and a loss of supervision channel (LOSC). The conjunction of these alarms
triggers a LOS at OTS level which is the signal of a fiber break at reception.
c. IPL and LOMS are raised on the same network element, the reception fiber is
not broken.
Basically, the network element detects a loss of channel reception. As LOSC
is not raised, the supervision channel is still active. As a consequence, the
reception fiber is not broken.
This case is typical of the context of an automatic laser shutdown that a
remote network element performs with the effect of an IPL and a LOMS on a
given network element.
3. Perform the relevant actions on the faulty fiber, based on the alarm analysis.
4. If the alarm persists, contact Alcatel-Lucent Technical Support Team.

LOSCF (Loss Of Supervisory Channel Frame)

...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

LOSCF (Loss Of Supervisory Channel Frame)

LOSCF (Loss Of Supervisory Channel Frame)
Description

OSCU board receives a supervision signal but cannot

decode it.
LOSCF alarm is raised by OTS block related to the
LOFA board associated with the OSCU board.

Probable Cause

Related Alarms

Remote WDM equipment does not send the

compliant supervision frame,

Line degradation.

Power at board input is too low.

OSCU Rx is faulty.

one.
Corrective Actions

On-Site Intervention Required

Yes in certain circumstances.

Actions

1. Measure the power at OSCU input.

If the value is less than 54 dBm, or 51 dBm
(depending on the board generation), change the
board.
2. If not, check the configuration of the 2 OSCU
boards to determine if the clock configuration is
OK.
3. If the alarm persists, contact Alcatel-Lucent
Technical Support Team.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

LTCER (Low Threshold Corrected Error)

LTCER (Low Threshold Corrected Error)
Description

Indicates a degradation of the transmission via high

correction rate (FEC).

Probable Cause

The transmitter of the previous transmission device

is degraded.

Tuning discrepancy between transponders and

amplifiers following a modification of the number
of WDM channels.

The fiber path between the 1626 LM and the

previous transmission device may be degraded.

Related Alarms

SSF (Server Signal Failure) generated on higher

impacted layers
Corrective Actions

On-Site Intervention Required

one.

Actions

1. Check the fiber connection.

2. Check the fiber between the 1626 LM and the
previous transmission device.
3. Measure the channel margin.
4. If necessary, tune the line (LOFA/ALCT) and/or the
channel (TRBC/TRBD) to recover the channel
margin.

About launching Performance Monitoring

In case of degradation alarm raised by a transponder board, launch Performance

Monitoring process to evaluate the urgency of planning a maintenance action.
Performance Monitoring process enables to watch the evolution of an event based on
counter value growth or decrease. In case of a rapid counter value growth you need to
plan a maintenance intervention within 2 days.

TD (Transmitter Degraded)
TD (Transmitter Degraded)
Description

Probable Cause

The transmitter module is degraded in the following

circumstances:

The pump laser temperature is out of acceptable

range (less than 15 C or greater than 35 C), or

Pump current has reached its maximum value,

indicating pump end of life.

In case of board plugging

The board initialization is not complete. The alarm

should disappear once the initialization is finished.

In case of normal operation

The pump module of the board is degraded.

Related Alarms

one.
Corrective Actions

On-Site Intervention Required

Yes, in certain circumstances.

Actions

In case of board plugging context:

1. Wait until the end of board initialization.

2. Unplug and plug again the board to re-initialize it.
3. If the error persists, replace the board.
4. End.
In case of normal operation:

1. Replace the board during a planned maintenance

period.
2. End.

IPD Threshold Table Management

Overview
Purpose

For LOFA boards, an IPD (Input Power Degradation) alarm threshold enables to define
the triggering point of an IPD alarm.
A LOFA board is assigned with a default threshold table which holds the alarm threshold
values.
To be able to create a specific IPD threshold table and to assign it to a LOFA board with
specific threshold values, you must:
1. Select the default threshold table.
2. Clone the selected table and save it with a specific name.
3. Assign the threshold table to the required board.
4. End.

About IPD Alarm Threshold

You can set and customize IPD threshold values which will trigger the Input Power
Degraded alarm, depending on the values you will have entered as shown in the
following figure.

Alcatel-Lucent recommends to set

after commissioning or,

after network upgrade.

For Threshold Type...

Threshold Value is Equal To...

Low

Measured power at line amplifier input - 3 dB.

High

Measured power at line amplifier input + 3 dB.
