FAA A&P COURSE FAA Requirements for Eligibility: (FAR) 65.71-65.

77 You will need to demonstrate that you have the requisite technical knowledge and experience and are eligible for written testing and oral examination.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: The FAA Mandates that all applicants for Airman and or Mechanic Certifications have the ability to read, write and speak the English language. All Preparation Courses at American Airman Ground School are intensive and fast paced. Our courses are not intended for those applicants having only a fair or marginal grasp of the English language.

MECHANICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: There are customarily three ways to achieve the mechanical experience required to take the FAA-required tests: 1. Maintenance Technician School: Attend a Federal Aviation Regulations part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School. Assuming the applicant pursues both Airframe and Powerplant programs students will log the required practical experience time to qualify for the tests for licensing over a one or two year time frame. 2. (OJT) On-The-Job Experience: You must log 18 months of supervised work to qualify to take the Airframe or Powerplant licensing tests, or 30 months to take the combined A&P test. The work time must be documented and signed off by the supervising mechanic or a notarized statement from your employer. 3. Military Work Experience: Military service time in certain armed forces specialties, but not the training time prior to such service, can qualify a person to take the FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant mechanic tests. The FAA will recognize and credit your practical experience only after a review of your paperwork and an interview with an FAA Airworthiness Inspector. Foreign nationals located outside the United States may only be certificated if they show, to the satisfaction of an FAA Inspector, that the certificate is required for the maintenance of U.S. registered aircraft. To show this need, the applicant must provide: 1. A signed and detailed statement from their employer substantiating the specific types of maintenance performed and the duration of each. 2. A detailed statement obtained from the foreign airworthiness authority of the country in which the experience was gained or from an advisor of the International Civil Aviation Organization that will validate that experience. All information must be signed, dated originals and traceable to the initiators. 3. An original signed and detailed statement from the owner or operator of a US registered aircraft substantiating the need for the A&P certificate. The 1

FAA A&P COURSE employer must also list the specific type of maintenance performed, and duration of employment. If you meet the above requirements, please call the FAA office in Singapore at (65) 6545-5822 and speak to the inspector who is assigned to you. The inspectors name will be on the letter sent to you by the Singapore International Field Office. An FAA Inspector at any International Field Office (IFO) may interview foreign national applicants who wish to establish eligibility for taking the mechanic written tests. The inspector will require the applicant to: 1. Provide positive identification. (Passport or other form of photo ID) 2. Provide completed FAA Form 8610-2, Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application in duplicate. 3. Provide all required documentation as listed in Section C above. 4. Pay the necessary fees by check, money order or bank draft drawn on a bank located in the U.S.

FEES FOR A&P TESTS AUTHORIZATION: There are 3 tests General, Airframe and Powerplant. Fees for each test is US$77.00. For a new A&P applicant (that is, no existing A or P license), you need to take the following tests: 1. General test + Airframe + Powerplant (Fees = US$231.00) 2. If you want only Airframe or Powerplant then General + A or + P (Fees = US$15 4.00) For an existing A or P license holder, if you want to add a rating, then you only need to pay for that rating @ US$77.00. After the local FSDO FAA Maintenance Inspector finds your "proof of experience documentation" to test for the Airframe and/or Powerplant Certifications (see FAR 65.71-65.77) acceptable you will be issued (2) Two "Original" Copies of FAA FORM 8610-2. This is the Airman Certification and/or Rating Application Form. The inspector will sign and endorse the form authorizing you to test. When all requirements have been verified, the FAA Inspector will endorse the appropriate FAA Form 8610-2. The written tests may then, be administered by any authorized Designated Written Test Examiner (DWTE). When official results of the examination are received, the applicant may go to any Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME) to take an oral and practical test. All tests must be completed within 24 months from the time the first written

FAA A&P COURSE test is taken. Since fees charged by examiners vary, examiners should be contacted directly for prices.

Some Questions Asked a) Do I need both the Mechanic's Experience Letter and the Civil Aviation Authority letter (In my case CAAS) or either one?

Yes, you will need both letters.

b) Do I need to submit a mechanic logbook of the work I have done for the past 18 months?

No, as long as the letter states that you have been working without breaks for over 18 months.

c) Do the letter include my experience on N registered aircrafts only or both N registered and 9V registered aircrafts? This is because the N registered aircrafts are both Diamond DA-40s and so are the 9Vregistered aircrafts.

The letter can state both aircraft.

d) Currently I am still pursuing my CAAS Cat B1 Papers. Do I need to present them too?

Present everything you have.
