Installing Tivoli Storage Manager API and BA client on Windows.

The Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client helps you protect information on your workstations. You can maintain backup versions of your files that you can restore if the original files are damaged or lost. You can also archive files that you do not currently need, preserve them in their current state, and retrieve them when necessary. The Tivoli Storage Manager clients work in conjunction with the Tivoli Storage Manager server You can install Tivoli Storage Manager Client in one of the following ways: 1. Install Tivoli Storage Manager client on a workstation where the FastBack server is installed. In this case, the prerequisites are: the FastBack server, the FastBack shell, and the FastBack mount. 2. Install Tivoli Storage Manager client on a workstation where the FastBack DR Hub is installed. In this case, the prerequisites are: the FastBack Disaster Recovery Hub setup, the FastBack shell, and the FastBack mount. 3. Install Tivoli Storage Manager client on a workstation where neither the fastBack server or the FastBack Disaster Recovery Hub is installed. In this case, ensure that the FastBack shell and the FastBack mount are installed. You can install the Tivoli Storage Manager Windows client from the product DVD, or from other installation media. You can install the backup-archive clients on the following Windows platforms: 1. Windows XP 2. Windows Vista 3. Windows 7 4. Windows Server 2003 5. Windows Server 2003 R2 6. Windows Server 2008 7. Follow these steps to install the software on your Windows system. 1. Double clicks on the setup file .Selected English as Demonstration Language and click on ok.

2. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Click on Tsm Backup-archive.

3. Select the location where you want to do the installation.

2. Custom takes you to the Custom Setup window. From this window, you can click on any program feature icon to modify that feature if it is not mandatory for installation.

In custom installation you can select the following program features: Backup-Archive Client - Backup-Archive Client GUI Files (Mandatory; cannot be deselected) - Backup-Archive Client Web Files (Mandatory; cannot be deselected) - Client API Runtime Files (Mandatory; cannot be deselected) - Client API SDK Files (Optional; not enabled by default) - Administrative Client Command Line Files (Optional; not enabled by default) - Logical Volume Snapshot Agent (LVSA) (Optional; not enabled by default)

After selecting the component click on next. 6. Installation will stat,After a successful installation you will get the following page. Click on finish.

Backup Archive Client and API installation completed.

NOTE: 1. The Backup-Archive Client, the API, and the Web Client are interdependent. If you select the Backup-Archive Client, you must also select the API. Similarly, if you select the Web client, you must also select the Backup-Archive Client and the API. 2. The Backup-Archive Client component includes the client scheduler files.

3. The installer displays the exact amount of disk space that is required for each program feature. Ensure that there is enough disk space on the destination drive for the files you choose to install. The installation program will not install to a destination drive with insufficient disk space. 4. If you do not have a dsm.opt file, a setup wizard is launched automatically when you start the GUI. The setup wizard can help you configure an initial options file.
