Introduction Breast cancer still constant to be the most fear for women, and it causes more lost years

of potential life than any other cancer so It is very important for early detection of any breast problems for the purpose of early treatment. Breast can be detected early by performing several methods like mammography, breast self examination (BSE), Ultra sound, and clinical breast examination (CBE). Breast screening methods pay strong benefits in recognizing breast cancer in early stages and decrease the risk of it. ( lewis, heitkemper & Dirksen, 2004). This assignment will discuss and compare two options of screening methods used in detection of breast cancer, mammography, ultra sound, and the importance of BSE in early detecting breast cancer. Key terms Breast cancer: It is a group of diseases in which cells in the tissues of the breast become abnormal and divide without order or control. http://www.netwellness.org/healthtopics/breastcancer/qa1.cfm Mammography: A mammogram is a breast x-ray. It is the best screening test for reducing the risk of dying from breast cancer. http://www.uptodate.com/patients/content/topic.do?topicKey=~DCaa.M5ZjsZ Breast self examination (BSE): Procedure by which breasts and accessory anatomic structures are observed and palpated to detect changes or abnormalities that may indicate the presence of malignancy. http://www.drugs.com/dict/breast-self-examination.html Mammography Mammography has been improved to have a significant result in early detection of breast cancer even before the appearance of physical symptoms.( lewis, heitkemper & Dirksen, 2004).in addition early detection by mammography allows for early treatment and the prevention of metastasis of the smaller lesions. with this method how close of x-ray is used, it consider a safe and simple method that can detect any small cyst or tumors that can't be felt with palpation it is also useful for detecting all types of breast cancer, including invasive ductal and invasive lobular cancer and of course woman has more treatment options and a cure is more likely. There are some consideration and recommendation should be done or followed to obtain the desired result,( Cuevas,S., Hohenstein, F., &Almendaro, S.(2006). First Breast Cancer Mammography Screening Program. Mexico.) such as women ages 50 74 should get the screening mammograms every two years. Ultra sound ( US) Another screening method that can be useful in detecting breast tumors is ultra sound. This methods consider beneficial, because with it you can know if tumor is malignant or benign

(Jarvis, C,2008). Ultra sound is specially useful for women who have a very dense breasts, and for detection of fluid-filled masses. Unlike a mammogram an US will not detect microcalcificaations. Like any other methods it has limits to use it (Tohno, E., Ueno, E., & Watanabe, h. (2008). Ultrasound screening of breast cancer. Jaban.) through this resource I was able to extend my information about the limits to use US. Breast self examination (BSE) BSE has show to help in decreasing the mortality rate in women with breast cancer. Although multi evidences that support the BSE still not all women regularly perform it due to many different reasons including fear, embarrassment, and lake of confidence in the ability to do BSE otherwise some women feel that doing breast self-exam on a regular basis improves their ability to find changes that would otherwise not have been noticed. Many expert groups encourage breast self-awareness, which includes education about risk factors for breast cancer, and what to do if a breast abnormality is detected Nurses play a big role with this concept because she can educate, teach, monitor, and evaluate. There are specific techniques that should be done correctly in order to get the needed results. Teaching this technique help in early detection of breast tumors which help in early intervention leading to enhance the survivor rate.
