Linear Lesson Plan Format

General Outcomes from Program of Studies/Curriculum Guide: Reading: In this unit it is expected that the students can read comprehensively short and simple informative and descriptive texts, related to the topic, extracting explicit information, understanding the main ideas from the text, giving sense to the meaning of thematic vocabulary and new words according to the context and thinking about the content of this. The purpose of Reading skill is students recognize references to comparisons, possibilities and abilities, and relations among ideas to make easy the comprehension and incorporation of written expressions when referring to the text.

Writing: It is expected that students write short and simple informative and descriptive texts, incorporating significant details, using grammar structures referring to comparisons and the thematic vocabulary learnt in this unit, relating coherent ideas and correcting spelling and punctuation.

Speaking: It is expected that students can interact orally among them and with the teacher in dialogues and monologues to give information about Life in other countries, make comparisons and use coherence vocabulary and pronunciation. Specific Outcomes from Program of Studies/Curriculum Guide: Read and demonstrate comprehension of information and main ideas, pointed them out explicitly in short and simple informative and descriptive texts related to Life in other countries: Recognizing vocabulary of the unit. Identifying expressions of comparisons.

Write short descriptive and informative texts related to Life in other countries:

Applying the Lexis of the unit. Making comparisons through comparative and superlative adjectives. Applying spelling and punctuation.

Using short and simple phrases and sentences. Applying the vocabulary related with Life in other countries. Using comparative and superlative adjectives.

Lesson Objectives:

Recognize and compare two different cultures. Identify adjectives in the comparative and superlative form. Apply their knowledge in simple sentences.

Methods Chosen: Suggestopedia, The Oral Approach, Communicative Language Teaching.

Materials: White Board Slate Pencil Text Audio

Procedure:

Introduction:

The students have to stand up in their places and follow the instructions of the teacher. The teacher will put a relaxing music and says to the students that their deep breathing, breathing in and breathing out. The teacher gives some instruction of relaxing and the students follow all the instructions. The instruction will be like this: Turn your attention to your breath
right now. Take three long slow breaths, breathing in slowly and deeply and then relaxing and letting go as the air falls out. The students Make Regular slow arm movements with deep breathing. Movements are done rhythmically and slowly as a group. When the music ends, the students sits and the teacher asks

for the students which countries do you like to visit? Do you know something about some different country? Do you know something about the United States? Do you know something about United Kingdom? . The students participate responding the questions and the teacher help with the doubts.
15 minutes Body: The teacher gives to the students a text with comparative and superlative form. The students read the text. The teacher begins to read the text in a loud voice and says Repeat after me and begins with the adjectives ex: old, cold, new continuous with the comparative ex: Older, Colder, Newer and ends with the superlative ex: The oldest, the coldest and the newest. The students have to listen and repeat all the words. The teacher gives one text comparing the United States with United Kingdom. The teacher gives the text to the students and they read the text. After of reading the text the students work in groups of 3 to respond 7 questions about the text. Ex: Which is the largest country?

50 Minutes Closure: For the closure activity the teacher gives to the students a comparative text between the United States and United Kingdom. The students read the text and the teacher gives instructions for an activity. The students will do the sentences in pair to have an interaction. The activity consists in work in pairs to do 6 simple sentences, to compare both countries and using the first text to help the student with the comparative and superlative. Ex: United States are longer than the United Kingdom. 15 Minutes

Assessment Methods: The Students write on the white board one comparative or superlative sentence of their previous activity. All the students have to write one sentence. When the students finish, the teacher to read a couple of sentences and ask if the sentence is correct. Example: The river Mississippi is Longest than Severn River and the students respond all together No or Yes... And have to justify their answers. 10 minutes
