GIRL POWER IN B-TOWN [P2]

22 DAYS TO GO! [P4]

ven with a response that is nearly nowhere as groundbreaking as it was initially hype-projected by some, mobile number portability services in India have ushered a new era of customer freedom.

@VodafoneIN: @ShravanRN Sorry for the inconvenience, we'll get back to you shortly with assistance. This is corporate ball-busting in the 202nd decade of civilization where the independent user, irrespective of their genuineness of claims, is powerful enough to make a goliath get down to its knees and ask forgiveness. So when Indias telecom secretary R Chandrasekhar said, It is the open season now, as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh flagged off mobile number portability (MNP) on Jan 20, the statement rang with significance for over 62 percent of the nations people who own cell phones.

Sample this exchange between a disgruntled user, who shares his anguish with his network provider over a short message on Twitter to his about 400 followers, and the carrier that swoops in to appease the customer: ShravanRN: @VodafoneIN Should i think of MNP or are you going to rectify my problem? obile number portability (MNP) services went live across India on Jan 20, Thursday, after about a year of delay, allowing the users to swap carriers without changing their mobile numbers, which is likely to jack up competition in an already cut-throat market. Indias cell phone market, with about 750 million subscribers is the fastest growing in the world and offering some of the cheapest tariffs anywhere,

The journey for this paper began when we decided to try out something different than our traditional in-house publication. Thats why we, the students of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Vivekananda College, have collaborated with India Blooms News Service to join the best of professional practices of the real world and the passion and enthusiasm of our students. We are probably among the first academic institution to have partnered a real world news agency to come out with something like this. Hope you like our work. When one comes to think of it, it turns out that best things in life are not the perfect ones. Dreams, a relationship, an art, happiness, all seem to be what they are because of what they aren't : perfect. It is the desire to grow into something much better that makes them as fantastic as they seem to be. And it's with that same faith that this journey begins. Printed pages are many, this is ours, something that is never perfect but always gets one step closer.

With the recent releases riding on the shoulder of female leads, it is the season of power women films in Bollywood. 'No One Killed Jessica' leads the pack, but many more releases are setting a new trend. Sreetama Basu and Supriyo Hazra report t is said that art imitates life. And true to this adage. the multi billion dollar Bollywood industry rides on the crest of films which are often inspired by real life events and with women calling the shots. While in some films men play second fiddle, in a film like No One Killed Jessica (NOKJ), there is not even a male love interest of either of the two female leads thrown in for box office reasons. The female leads of No One Killed Jessica are not glammed up. They are not ravishing beauties performing hipswinging numbers, shedding clothes or

Countdown for the cricketing carnival has begun as the Subcontinent pads up to host the mega event. SUPRIYO HAZRA and PIYALI MONDAL pick the favourites

H MERUN
Australia dominated the game for the past couple of years as they won all the previous three edition of the mega cricketing event. But this time the Australian team does not seem to be in that form which they used to be with their top players like Shane Warne, Andrew Symonds, Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist playing. And with a recent defeat at the hands of England the team surely seems to have lost much of the momentum, though it will be wrong to remove them from the list completely. I always think Australia cant be ruled out since theyve had a good history in this tournament and finally Id pick South Africa as the fourth semi-finalist. But you never know I may be well off the mark! Paul Collingwood remarked. So whether it will be India or Australia or some other nation lifting the trophy, twenty-two days later, the biggest cricketing event is sure to take away breaths of 22-yard action fans.

he final moments of preparation are going on in full swing at multiple venues in India as the Subcontinent gears up to host the much awaited festival called the ICC Cricket World Cup. It is after 1996 World Cup in the subcontinent that the fight for the Cup is back here. And what makes it really interesting is surely the buoyant hopes of the Indian team to perform well and clinch the trophy this time. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are jointly hosting the Cup along with India, with the latter hosting the highest number of the matches. The event will begin from February 19 at Bangladesh when India take on the former. It will be interesting to see how the Indians play in this match after their shocking defeat by Bangladesh in 2007.
