DEMOLITION WORKS

GENERAL The specifications listed in this section are clauses particular to demolition works. Specifications listed under other sections of the Contract considered relevant to demolition works are also applicable. The Contractor shall familiarize himself with the extent of demolition works required.

1.1

CODE OF PRACTICE All materials and workmanship shall be in accordance with the recommendations laid down in British Standard B.S. 6187: 2000 - Code of Practice for Full and Partial Demolition, or other relevant British Standard except as otherwise modified and supplemented in this Specification.

1.2

DEMOLITION The Contractor shall provide and use tools and equipment with suitable capacity for the works required. All site personnel carrying out the works shall be trained in demolition works and shall at all times be aware of and adhere to the safety requirements. Prior to any demolition works being carried out, the Contractor shall identify the positions and locations of all the existing reinforced concrete or steel structural elements within and adjacent to the affected area. Where required by the Engineer, the Contractor shall partially hack the existing reinforced concrete structures to identify its existing steel reinforcement. The Contractor shall also identify all M&E services, e.g., electrical wiring, airconditioning ducting, plumbing works, etc., concealed or otherwise, and disconnect these services to the affected areas before carrying out the demolition works. The supervising personnel shall be informed at least one (1) week in advance so that a joint inspection of the affected portion of works can be carried out prior to carrying out any demolition works. The Contractor shall be fully responsible to provide all temporary supports and shoring to the existing structure deemed required during the course of the demolition works. Safety nets and catch platforms where deemed necessary, shall

be provided at the faade of the building. The Contractor shall also provide all temporary scaffolding, cranes, etc. for the demolition works. Noise and air pollution shall be kept at a minimum. Construction debris from elevated floors shall be transported down with the use of an approved covered rubbish chute. All debris shall be placed in a waste bin located within the site boundary and shall be carted away from site as soon as possible to be disposed-off at the Contractors own dump site. During the duration of the demolition works where the faade walls, doors, windows may already have been demolished, it shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to provide security for the premises. 1.3. CONFORMITY TO SAFETY REQUIREMENTS In addition to the safety aspects in BS 6187, the Contractor shall also fulfill the requirements of the N.I.O.S.H and the D.O.S.H.. No illegal workers shall be allowed at site. 1.4 INSURANCES The Contractor shall at all times ensure that the work and the site personnel are sufficiently insured. The Contractor shall also insure the works against third party claims for injury and damages and shall further indemnify the Client against all third party claims for injury and damages. 1.5 WORKING HOURS The Contractor shall adhere strictly to the working hours guidelines set out by the relevant Authorities.
