The movie is all about three gentlemens name Raju, Farhan and Rancho.

They met each other at the college and they are taking up engineering. They become close friends and did a lot of things together. Rancho as a leader of the group has this passion of helping his friends whatever the situation. Hes always there to help and encourage his friends to pursue what they like best. They have this professor who always scolds students but he doesnt believe on the ability of hid students so most of the students who fail commit suicide and one of them are Raju. But Rancho didnt lose hope that his friend will make it. But Racho didnt lose hope that his friend will make it. Racho, helped his friends to land a job for their future before they separate their ways. After graduation Raju and Farhan didnt stop looking for Racho but in the end they were to see where Racho is staying because of the help of another friend in college. They were able to notice all the inventions that Rancho had.

Relating his movie to the different reading theories is indeed a challenging one. Through its thoughtful ideas, several academic ideas from grading system, parental pressure, student suicide and etc, will help you to understand the true meaning of the story.

Feminism The text which serves as a basis is when Pias sister Mona said before her childbirth that if I will get birth a boy he will be an engineer, if it is girl she will be a doctor. Now a days every individual has its own choice to choose of what course they wanted to be regardless of their identity. Theres a lot of successful female engineer, doctors, military, pilot and others even their degree they owned are intended for men. In this modern life, people have in common idea of what man can do, female can do also in which worst is, most female now are the one who work for their family and the man are the one who stayed at home doing household chores.

Reading Response Theory This refers to the time that Pias confronted his father about the true scenario why his brother committed suicide with the two engineering students committing suicide namely Joy and Raju. This event really happens in real life. There are a lot of factor may arises; (1.) Parental pressure- every parent wants their children to perform in this very competitive educational system and get the top position. Everyone knows that there is only one who can fit the top. Not all students are gifted with intelligence. Every student has its own talent. Parent wants to fulfill their own aspirations and dreams through their children, which they try to achieve. But it is always not possible.(2) Teacher pressure- every teacher has its own favorite student. The students who are the receiving end are the ones that have to bear the brunt and sometimes cannot handle pressure.(3) Colleague pressure- now ad days many educational institution have a zero tolerance policy and also there is a jail term , which

eventually stop this horrible experience that students have to bear.

New Criticism The formal elements we can use in relation to this movie is metonymy. Racho said to Pia that if she will get married she will wear a helmet instead of a veil. There love started when Racho ride on Pias motorcycle and she always reminded when his with him she must always wear his helmet. When Racho and Pias meet again for almost five years, Pias wore her helmet while riding in her motorclycle. Another element that we can use is simile. When Rachos said to Pia about the true meaning of love, he compared it into the wind; that when the wind moves slowly and you hear the sound that already love.

Marxism The text that evidently shows is when Rancho said that grades create division .The dean together with the engineering took their pictures and their places of seat are based on

their rank in the test given. The one who got first place are seated at front and those who got lowest score are seated at the back seat. This scenario really happens in real life. Those who are in high class are given much recognition and attention that those who are in the middle class are lower class. Equality of one another is being violated; it only depends of what you are in the society. Even in the family, the one who can give pride to the family are given much care and love compared to the one who cant give much pride.

Psychoanalytic Theory The denial can be applied here, believing that problem doesnt exist or the unpleasant event never happened. The character that can best pointed out here is Dr. Virus, he believe that his system is the best and theres nothing wrong with it. He denied all unpleasant acts happen inside his premises. Well in fact many of his students attempts suicide, feels weakness, irrelevant and other because of his system, he denied all this acquisition with him and blame them because they showed defeat. There are people trying to correct us but we dont want to listen, we feel that we are much better than them. We treat them as nothing , well in fact learning is everywhere, either young or old we can learn to them Another is low of self esteem. When Raju and Farhan failed to pass the exam. Low self esteem is indeed a poison that little by little will kill you believing that you cant do without trying if first. It is a great enemy of ourselves, an attitude that brings you down.
