2.Course supervision
At the beginning of the Masters Course, you will be assigned a mentor or study career counsellor. You will meet with him or her at least twice a year. These discussions will focus on the following subjects: the syllabus and any adjustments in the second year the current state of affairs the timetable, the compulsory subjects and the optional subjects your course progress, the components that still have to be passed, retaking components that have been failed and potential replacement assignments the budget any course problems evaluating the course The mentor or study career counsellor will draw up a brief report of these discussions along with the most important conclusions and agreements. This report will be included in your Digital Student Portfolio.
3.Test planning
The test planning is included in the Electronic Learning Environment (ELE). The test periods are determined during the annual planning. You will discuss the proposal for your audition and/or programme with your mentor or study career counsellor. A format for these forms is available at the ELE. Once the mentor or study career counsellor has approved the proposal, the audition or assessment can be organised by the test planner at the location where the student is enrolled. The head or the co-ordinator of the course selects the audition committee under the authority of the examination committee. As recommended by the head or the co-ordinator, the test planner then approaches external experts with a view to being examiners. As a student, you can also nominate an examiner in relation to your syllabus. You will discuss your nomination with the head or the co-ordinator, who must also approve it. The audition committee consists of a maximum of five people. An external expert must be present at the final audition or final assessment in the capacity of an examiner. You are personally responsible for the equipment you need. The stage manager can help you here.
5. Classical Music, Jazz & Pop and New Dutch Swing course curriculum
Each year, as based on the syllabus that you will draw up yourself, a curriculum is agreed upon that will determine all the educational components that you will study. This also includes both the individual and the collective components. The main subjects time division and how this time will be used must be communicated before 1 July to the Directors of the locations of the ArtEZ School of Music in Arnhem, Enschede and Zwolle.

Main subject: You will attend classes given by internal lecturers (ArtEZ lecturers) and external lecturers, who you will select yourself. In your course plan, you will indicate how you intend to use your budget for the individual main subject classes. You will discuss this with your mentor, who must give his or her approval. If you exceed this budget, you will be liable for the additional costs. Each student receives an individual budget of 3,480. Internal budget: At least 2,160 will be used for individual main subject classes and other classes relating to your main subject at ArtEZ School of Music. These hours can be divided between different teachers. The minimum number of hours is nine per teacher. Individual main subject classes cost 60 for each 60-minute class. Piano accompaniment costs 80 for each 60-minute class. If you spend more than 36 hours of your internal budget at ArtEZ School of Music, you can then approach internal lecturers with a request for less than nine hours of classes. The internal lecturers hold an assessment twice a year. External budget (You can use this budget as you like, also for internal hours.) After deducting all the internal classes, you will be left with a budget that is to be used externally and does not exceed 1,320. With your mentors approval, you can attend classes given by external lecturers. You will contact the lecturer of your choice, and draw up agreements concerning the number of classes and their duration. You may not exceed the available budget. This means that the number of possible class hours will depend on the lecturers rates. 8
The external lecturer will draw up a brief report of the classes that were given. These classes can be declared in three ways: - through a declaration form, which is to be completed in its entirety by the external lecturer. - through an invoice to be drawn up by the lecturer. It must include the following formal requirements: a Kamer van Koophandel number and/or a BTW number. In terms of BTW, the invoice must adhere to the most recent BTW regulations. Only in the event of inclusion in the CRKBO register is it possible to opt for educational exemption from BTW. A VAR-WUO declaration and a photocopy of the lecturers passport must accompany invoices for five of more classes. - through a declaration form that you will fill in yourself if you have already paid the lecturer. This form should be accompanied by the external lecturers original invoice, which must also satisfy the requirements described above. Declaration forms can be downloaded from the Electronic Learning Environment (ELE). The external budget may not be used for travel or accommodation expenses. Students are liable for these costs themselves. The mentor can also approve the reimbursement of attending special concerts/courses/workshops/studio recordings as part of the external budget. The mentor will convey his or her approval to the educational office. Interim audition and final audition The public interim audition is preferably held in either May or June of the first course year. Excluding the examiners discussions, it lasts for at least 30 minutes and for no more than 45 minutes. The final audition, which takes the form of a public presentation, is preferably held in either May or June of the second course year. Excluding the examiners discussions, it lasts for at least one hour and for no more than 70 minutes including scene changes. After consulting with the mentor and the examination committee (and gaining their approval), a student can opt to include a portfolio as part of the audition. Students are only admitted to the final audition once all the other study components have been cleared. Collective curriculum The collective curriculum (which is known as Valeur Ajoute on the Classical Music course) comprises a series of collective activities in the form of lectures and practicals. The subjects relate to your professional practice. From August onwards an outline of the classes is available at the Electronic Learning Environment (ELE). The activities may be rotated between the different locations. If you do not have an OV public transport card, you will be able to declare your travel expenses to the School of Music. Here, the distance travelled between the enrolment location and the class location is binding. This form can be downloaded from the ELE. Students are divided into groups according to their departments. The collective curriculum for Jazz & Pop and New Dutch Swing is drawn up in consultation with the students in September.
Productions Each year, you will complete three of your own productions. Alternatively, you will work actively on three productions by other people. Productions can be initiated by ArtEZ or yourself, either at or outside of the School of Music. You will be responsible for the productions contents, which must meet with your mentors approval. The productions minimum requirements are contributing individually to the curriculum and possibly working on the public relations. The time invested in the production must be in proportion to the number of credits awarded. One production should preferably be interdisciplinary. Every production should preferably be recorded in both sound and vision. A production comprises different phases: o preparation o presentations such as concerts, studio recordings and performances o evaluation, reflection and a report Research preparation At the beginning of the first semester (see: the yearly timetable), an introduction is held for first-year students about initiating and conducting research. Students are obliged to maintain a 100% attendance record for this study component. You will be guided by the research supervisor. Instructions for conducting research are included in the Electronic Learning Environment. Research Our education is in a constant state of development. New knowledge and insights are essential here. Through research, students contribute to the development and innovation of both the curriculum and the cultural climate. You will be guided by the research supervisor. The research results will be presented in April of the second year. The presentation of the research is a public event. First-year students must attend at least five of these presentations. Study network The aim of the study network is to reflect on your own and other students course development along with the initiating, supporting and stimulating of each others projects and research. A study network consists of approximately ten students. Each study network has a supervisor, who is known as the study network supervisor. Wherever possible, study networks are set up per department at each of the three locations. All students are obliged to participate in a study network. Study networks and their study network supervisors meet once every two to three weeks for a maximum of two hours. Each study network has a chairman and a secretary, both of whom are selected from amongst the networks members. These functions rotate within the group. Each student draws up a reflection report in which he or she will focus on aspects such as what has occurred within the study network. Optional courses at the Art Business Centre The following trainings and workshops can be held as part of the Masters Course:

plenty of space on this Masters Course to imbue your development with form. This means that you will conduct research and can also, for instance, set up your own music and media productions, software applications, indie labels, educational products and bands. Moreover, you will collaborate closely with Bachelors students from the Pop Music and MediaMusic departments. Associate Professor Tom Holkenborg, better known as Junkie XL, brings international professional practice to MediaMusic. Through his classes in Enschede and video conferences from Los Angeles, he will share his international experience and professional secrets with you. This, in turn, will imbue your productions with an international allure and you will have more chance of having your talents discovered. Students can also, for instance, work on national and international hits at the studios of Jay Vandenberg. There are also various work placement opportunities such as at the ATAK pop venue, Metropool, the Alles is los Agency, the Conway Studios in Los Angeles, the Dynamedion games company in Mainz and the Arturia music software business in Grenoble. Apart from Tom Holkenborg and Jay Vandenberg, you will also be taught by many specialists from the music and entertainment industries both at home and abroad. This takes the form of individual classes, coaching, workshops, trainings and master classes. In your course plan, you will describe your professional profile along with the development and objectives that you wish to achieve by the end of the Masters Course. Skills, attitude, expert knowledge and its application are tested at a higher level than on the Bachelors Course.

Productions and projects In this component, you will define the number and choice of productions and projects that you wish to undertake. These can either be your own productions or productions and projects involving other people. Because ArtEZ comprises a variety of arts disciplines, interdisciplinary potential is right on your doorstep. For instance, you can collaborate with the music courses in Arnhem and/or Zwolle, or involve animation, VJs, fashion, dance, theatre, film, games, and the visual arts. Outside of ArtEZ, you can opt to work with the Saxion Hogescholen, the Muziekkwartier in Enschede and the Kunstkwartier, etc. There are also assignments for external clients. The course maintains a network of musicians, managers, composers, producers, designers, studios and companies from the national and international music and entertainment industries. The Masters Course productions and projects take place as much as possible in the real world. This entails actually launching products onto the market, coping with stress and tight deadlines, multi-tasking and working with professionals. The number of products is calculated on the basis of the number of available credits along with the speed of production in international practice. For instance: one song every two days, a one-minute film score, etc. Collective curriculum The collective curriculum consists of a small, heterogeneous group comprising different disciplines that exchange information and experiences both with each other and the coach while also reflecting on their development as individuals. Subjects that are regularly discussed include the Digital Student
