Introduction
Facing a stronger competition, businesses must be dynamic and reactive in order to keep their customers and continue sales. This responsiveness is only possible through the use of communication tools. Corporate image is conveyed across all media. The fixed or mobile phone remains the most widely used tool but other means are also used to communicate with customers or suppliers. An internet website presents its products. The chat, video conferencing, or application sharing allow remote people to work on common projects while being at remote sites. Unified communications and collaboration solutions provide important gains for teams productivity. They allow to greatly improve the image of the company and also to effectively answer to the needs of customers or leads. Because these new communication solutions are open to market standards and based on SIP protocol, they reduce costs by giving access to offers of alternative operators. And because they can be fully integrated on the IT infrastructure, deployment and installation costs will be optimized. Aastra 5000 brings these Unified Communication solutions. Acquiring an Aastra 5000 solution is a guarantee of sustainability of business investment.

IPT according to Aastra

State of the art of IPT
The first phase of migration to IP Telephony (IPT 1.0) was characterised by the deployment of mainly proprietary solutions, without any major impact on existing telephony architecures. Now, with the growing reliability of IP networks and the speed up of development of new internet-based communication tools, a second migration phase (IPT 2.0) has started. It is increasingly based on open standards and reinforces the interoperability of systems, terminals and applications.

SIP, the key migration factor

Aastra considers SIP as an economic catalyst for migration to IPT 2.0, encouraging endusers to change their analogue and digital terminals to SIP terminals. However, beyond this aspect, SIP enables multimedia applications to easily communicate with each other by choosing the most appropriate media according to the users presence status.

IPT according to Aastra

Aastra provides flexible and extendable solutions, for 4 to 150,000 users, based on the SIP protocol. Aastra strives to assist its customers during this IP transformation, by offering innovative solutions as well as a full range of services aimed at supporting the migration of the existing telephony network to an intelligent network capable of managing unified communications for all your companys departments, and increasing its efficiency.

The Aastra 5000 networking

The Aastra 5000 range guarantees investment durability and allows the deployment of solutions for 6 to 1 000 users. Thanks to the power of the SINGLE software solution, this capacity can be extended to up to 150 000 subscribers by creating a virtual private network. This extension of capacities is done seamlessly, based on needs. A company equipped with a traditional system may migrate to a full IP solution, or from a single-site solution to a multi-site solution, which guarantees, in all circumstances, the durability of its investment.

Telephony VPN
The Aastra 5000 telephony VPN (Virtual Private Network), based on MOVACS (Multiswitch Original Virtual Addressing Communication System) signalling, allows full transparency of the services between the different sites, such as call by name, filtering and mobility services. The company can manage several sites from a single point, which allows high flexibility. On this network, the companys call distribution service is managed effectively, regardless of its topology, thanks to the sharing of resources like voicemail services.

Dual homing
In an Aastra 5000 multi-site, resiliency may be provided for wired IP phones, through the dual-homing feature. When a second node IP address is configured in the IP phone, it will be able to access to the service on the second node, when the first one does not answer anymore. This is managed automatically by the phone (nothing to do for the user). Most of the services are available on the second node, except the integrated voice mail, the hunting groups, the free-seating and the CSTA supervision. This feature requires IP Dual-homing licenses on the first node.

Centralised Management
When Aastra 5000 and Aastra X Series systems are networked, Aastra Management 7450 software facilitates the administrators day-to-day activities by centralising management operations. This essential part provides value-added services such as: full management of users (subscribers, rights, keys, voicemail box, etc.) real-time supervision of Aastra 5000 and AX Series systems on a graphic map preventive and corrective network maintenance services connectors to corporate directories such as Microsoft Active Directory Aastra Phone Suite, a web administration service, enabling an enduser to program their keys and print out their labels

18

Communication cost management

How to control the companys communication costs?
Select the network accesses . Restriction by employee category example: international, national numbers may be inaccessible . Restriction by barred numbers: possibility to create some lists of barred numbers or prefixes (example: 36, etc.) . Restriction by timeslot: to prohibit, for example, terminal access to the night cleaning service Making users conscious of communication cost and duration . The terminal calculates the charging units for calls to a customer. . The terminal displays the cost and duration of the communication in progress or at the end of the communication. . The anti-long-time communication function is used to terminate a prolonged discussion. Lock function Thanks to a personal code, the terminal can be locked. Prepayment A telephone credit may be assigned to some terminals to limit communication charges (principle of prepaid cards). Business codes Business codes enable you to set up a call by dialling a special code reserved for the business to which you wish to charge the communication cost. This function is particularly suited to companies working for third parties and which wish to re-invoice the charges specific to each customer. To be able to use business codes, you have to add an optional cost management system.

How to know and analyse communication costs ?

1. For limited needs, it is possible to consult the communication costs from the attendant console or management terminal. 2. With the optional billing software of Aastra 5000 systems: VT Pro, AHS.

Use in a multi-company configuration

The multi-company application enables you to share the resources of an IPBX between different companies: possibility to allow or disallow the call between companies each company has its own invoicing each company has its own organisation (call distribution, abbreviated numbers, etc.) The different external devices (pre-off-hook, music-on-hold, charging system, etc.) may or may not be shared. This multi-company function can also be used in the same company to provide a multi-call-distribution service.
Some features are Network dependant, please check with the local operator.

LDAP directory - Flexibility and openness

In keeping with the LDAP standard, the Aastra directory is totally flexible and open to the companys information system. The Aastra directory centralises all the administrative information about: internal subscribers: last name, first name, location, e-mail address, and internal / DID numbers external contacts: company name, address, external numbers Flexibility is brought in especially thanks to a configurable diagram: 10 additional fields for adapting the directory to the end-users actual need. Moreover, abbreviated numbers are available in the OpenLDAP directory, thus giving an overview or limiting access only to users belonging to a specific hierarchy. The OpenLDAP directory adapts to the companys identity management process and has a connector offer enabling it to synchronise in real time with all types of corporate directories: Microsoft Active Directory for example. All this information is delivered to telephone users through a web interface.

General characteristics
Embedded on the Aastra X Series CPU board (up to 3,000 records), on Aastra 5000 server (up to 80,000 records), or on AM 7450 server (up to 200,000 records) Management through the AM 7450 software or the AMP software Https security of exchanged data IP or ISDN link Security through a standard LDAP mechanism (on AM 7450 server) Synchronisation with company directories such as Microsoft Active Directory (on AM 7450 server)
