Catholic Priest Admits to Fatherhood The Legion of Christ is a Catholic religious order that has been under fire.

It's late founder Father Marcial Maciel, was a known pedophile who fathered three children and sexually abused his seminarians. Today it was reported that the Legion knew their most famous priest (Williams) fathered a child some years ago, yet they failed to remove him from teaching morality to seminarians or from speaking publicly about ethics. Thomas Williams said, "a number of years ago I had a relationship with a woman and fathered her child. I am deeply sorry for this grave transgression and have tried to make amends." Williams is a native of Michigan who announced his intentions to go on leave after an activist contacted the Vatican with allegations that he had fathered a child. The Reverend Thomas Williams is now on leave of absence to reflect on his commitments as a priest. Also that same activist alleged that Williams had relationships with female students while teaching at a university in Rome. Williams, who has been stationed in Rome, had appeared previously on U.S. television news programs and was interviewed by ABC in 2010 about the order after the late founder of Legionaries of Christ Marcial Maciel, who was denounced by the Vatican for sexual improprieties. The National Catholic Reporter said seven other priests connected to the Legion are now being investigated for the alleged abuse of minors. The 800-strong order will no doubt have trouble maintaining order because of the recent turmoil, and possible future entanglements.
