Nightingale Awards Dee Miller, RN and Liz Burnhauser, RN received Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing on May 10, 2012 at the 12th annual celebration of the event, which was held at the Toyota Presents Oakdale Theatre. The Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing celebrates outstanding nurses. Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, and Nurse Practitioners are nominated for recognition by their employers. Nominees should have made a significant impact on patient care and/or the nursing profession; gone beyond the call in a clearly illustrated way, demonstrated excellence or achieved a life-long legacy in a particular arena. Dee Miller, RN is the head nurse on the 60-bed Alzheimers Unit. Ms. Miller possesses great dedication to her residents and their families as demonstrated by the following story. When a female resident became gravely ill and her daughter was unable to visit, Ms. Miller contacted the daughter frequently with updates about her mothers condition. She also arranged for their communication by phone when the daughter became ill and was hospitalized. Following the daughters subsequent admission to Lord Chamberlain, Ms. Miller arranged frequent visits between mother and daughter. Ms. Miller is recognized for her compassion, kindness, and the wonderful care she has provided to her patients over the years. Liz Burnhauser, RN leads a 70-bed unit with a mix of long and short-term patients. Ms. Burnhauser possesses strong clinical skills, an empathetic nature, and remarkable compassion toward residents and their families. Her dedication is exemplified by her painstaking and persistent efforts to orchestrate the transfer of a young Multiple Sclerosis resident at Lord Chamberlain to a facility in the southern United States so that she could be closer to her children. Ms. Burnhauser spent countless hours to secure her placement to a facility that could meet both her challenging physical needs and her desire to be near her children. Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 7003 Main Street, Stratford, offers inpatient sub-acute and post-surgical care for patients with orthopedic, neurologic, and cardiac diagnoses, and rehabilitation services for adults from the community as well as residents.
