Introduction

LPG Car Conversion is software intended to teach the target-users, about the conversion process using different mediums such as image, videos, animation, text, sounds, and interactivity. Using the IT intends to present the lessons to the target-users in an easy but helpful way. II. Purpose of Development

Gas prices gradually increasing and environmental concerns constantly looming, many people are choosing to convert their cars to run on LPG, or liquefied petroleum gas. LPG car conversion is an economical and environmentally conscious choice, and there are a few basic things to know before going ahead with this conversion. Automotive LPG or Auto gas is the most accessible alternative fuel available to petrol and diesel in the Worldwide today. LP gas is more affordable than regular fuel, is nontoxic, burns more cleanly so it is safer for the environment and can extend the lifespan of your engine exponentially because it is noncorrosive. Many government and company vehicles, rather than cars obtained for personal use, are run on liquid propane gas. However, you can convert your car's gas engine to propane power. To do this, you will need a conversion kit as well as some mechanical and automotive knowledge. LP conversion kits for engines include parts to modify engine intake mechanisms such as carburetors and to adjust gas flow to be compatible with the engine, including linking with the engine vacuum to regulate gas according to engine demand. For appliances, conversion from natural gas involves changing flow regulation, orifices and burners as appropriate. LP conversion kits allow the use of liquid propane (LP) gas with engines and appliances that were designed to use other fuels such as gasoline or natural gas. Appliance manufacturers often sell LP conversion kits for their products, while for cars specialty companies manufacture and sell kits to convert specific vehicles to liquid propane gas. Other engine applications can be converted as well.

Development a. Brainstorming

The specific target users for this software are the ABC taxi (Metro Manila). LPG is a blend of propane and butane, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is produced either as a by-product of oil-refining, or from natural gas (methane) fields. As an alternative fuel Auto LPG it is most suited to use in cars and light vans, rather than heavy vehicles. Air valve system is one of the cheapest types of LPG conversion. This system is best for cars made before 2004, and will help the car meet the governments emission standards. There is also the vapor injection system. This system injects the LPG into the engines combustion chamber. The most advanced LPG system, however, is the liquid injection system, which injects gas into the combustion chamber in liquid form. The liquid injection system is also cheaper and more efficient than vapor injections. Though it will cost more money upfront, one must look at LPG conversion as an investment. An engine running on LPG consumes less gas than one running on regular petroleum-based fuels, because liquid gas is cooler than petrol. As well, LPG is often less expensive than its petrol alternatives. In fact, some governments actually put fewer taxes on LPG than other fuels. Car engines also perform better when ran on LPG. This could possibly mean savings on future car repairs. A.1 Auto LPG conversion kit The Auto LPG conversion kit follows the dual fuel system of conversion. Under this system, all gasoline parts are retained as the system allows one to start and run the vehicle with either Auto LPG or gasoline with the help of a change over switch. A.1.1 Tank Contains the Auto LPG with capacity ranging from 30 to 100 liters. A.1.2 Multivalve Facilities refueling has an 80% stop-fill safety. i.e. it will automatically stop filling when it reaches 80% capacity. A.1.3 LPG Solenoid Valve Allows entry as well as prevents flow of Auto LPG to the system; depending on the mode selected. A.1.4 Gasoline Solenoid Valve Allows entry as it prevents flow of gasoline to the system; depends on the mode selected. A.1.5 Electronic Control Module Regulates the flow of LPG depending on the engine RPM (only in fuel injected models) A.1.6 Gas / Petrol Switch Allows change over from gasoline to Auto LPG

A.1.7 Pressure Regulator on Vaporizer Facilitates vaporization of Auto LPG from liquid state A.1.8 Mixer or Gas Injection Introduces the vaporized Auto LPG in the combustion chamber B.1 Installation LP conversion kits for engines should be installed by a qualified technician who is familiar with applicable safety bulletins and techniques. Home appliance kits also need to be installed by a qualified technician to ensure safety. B.1.1 Advantages of LPG Conversion B.1.2 Environment LPG has many uses; from heating to vehicles. It is made up of hydrocarbon gases. When used for vehicles, LPG is a mixture of propane and butane (this is called auto gas). When compressed, it turns into liquid form. 1L of LPG liquid is equivalent to 270L of LPG vapor. Worldwide there are over 16 million vehicles currently powered by LPG. They are producing less harmful emissions than those driving petrol or diesel, whilst making significant savings at the pumps. B.1.3 Reduced carbon emissions Although vehicles are much cleaner than in the past, they remain one of the most significant factors in air pollution. Vehicles running on LPG produce far fewer of the harmful emissions associated with traditional road fuels that contribute to environmental and health problems. In 2004 the European Emissions Testing Programmer confirmed the environmental benefits and credentials of LPG vehicles. Tests were carried out at four independent laboratories across Europe testing petrol, diesel & LPG vehicles.

B.1.4 Reduced Noise Pollution These vehicles are quieter than other diesel vehicles. Because LPG quickly evaporates if a spillage occurs and produces fewer particulates and nitrogen oxides.

B.1.5 Reduces reliance on petrol and diesel UK is producing around six million tones of LPG and has 1,300 refueling stations. Means LPG has a vast room for growth in the global market as well.

B.2 Disadvantage of LPG Conversion LPG is said to have some properties which makes it dangerous to handle it. Although the advantages of using LPG far outweigh the disadvantages, it always helps to know how LPG usage can also cause some disadvantages. A.2.2.1 Storage and safety To store LPG, you require very sturdy tanks and cylinders. The gas has to be kept pressurized to accommodate it in 274tines lesser space. This can also be perceived by the

number of cases LPG cylinders have exploded and resulted in serious damages to lives and property. A.2.2.2 Climate Dependent. In colder climates or conditions, there is a known problem related to starting due to the low vapour pressure of propane. This is known to happen in conditions with sub 32 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures. A.2.2.3 Shorten the life of engine When it comes to using LPG in vehicles, it is known to shorten the life of an engine. This is due to the fact that LPG lacks combustive properties with lead and lead substitutes. Also, LPG is not safe to be used in vehicles running or plying on rough terrains and mountain roads. An LPG run car is less powerful than the car which uses diesel or petrol, since LPG is known to have low energy density. A.2.2.4 Highly Flammable It is potentially very hazardous and it also damages valves of the vehicles. Transporting LPG is also not very easy.

A.2.2.5 Availability LPG is not as available as petrol and diesel, but can be found at 45% of service stations in Philippines. (There are less than a hundred outlets).

A.2.2.6 Installation Fee Also, with time, it has been noticed in some Asian countries that as LPG uses have gained popularity, the prices have also been increased. The initial installation fees with respect to equipments and an LPG connection for domestic uses is also priced higher. But yes, LPG is far much cheaper in the long run. A.2.3 AUTO-LPG Fuelled Vehicles (DOs and DONTs) A.2.3.1 DONTs A.2.3.1.1 Never assume the fuel system is free from Auto LPG. Isolating the fuel tank and running the engine until it stops will ensure that the system is gas free. A.2.3.1.2 dont carry out-welding, burning and other hot works on an Auto LPG vehicle within 1 meter of its tank on fuel lines without a heat resistant shield or before the parts have been emptied or gas freed. A.2.3.1.3 Never undertake roadside repairs unless workers are trained and approved safe equipment are available in the site. A.2.3.1..4 dont crush a vehicle until the LPG tank has been removed by a competent person. A.2.3.1.5 Auto LPG vehicles due for scrapping or recycling should not be accepted unless procedure for safe removal and disposal of LPG system are in place.

A.2.3.2DOs A.2.3.2.1 Ensure to deploy only trained and competent workers in Auto LPG fuelled vehicle related jobs. A.2.3.2.2 Follow the vehicle manufacturers on system installers instructions and make sure workers are aware of locations of Auto LPG tank and fuel lines. A.2.3.2.3 When working on open spaces, ensure safe places for parking and working on vehicles, e.g. away from drains, pits and other openings in the ground and all sources of ignition. A.2.3.2.4 If LPG fuel is to be emptied, simply switch over to Auto LPG and run the engine until it stops. A.2.3.2.5 Wear protective equipment (PPE) to prevent cold burns, eye damage and discharge of static electricity those who may be carrying out hot work. A.2.3.2.6 Carry out roadside check for leaks and other damages to the LPG system on vehicles involved in accidents. In addition, observe the following safety precautions in case of incidence of a leaking LPG system in a service station while filling and while on the road.
