Soulfish Blues Band

The Soulfish Blues Band is a new project that is sure to become a staple in the Ark-La-Tex Blues scene. Spearheaded by some seasoned vets in the music arena, the band exhibits levels of professionalism and musicianship that makes it easy to become a dedicated fan. After performing with super talent Percy Sledge for a number of years, they are now joined by a lurid female vocalist from Deep South Louisiana to round out the act. They draw inspiration from artists such as Jeff Beck, Aretha Franklin, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Robben Ford, B.B. King, and Irma Thomas (to name a few), and combine their styles for a one-of-a-kind sound that truly commands attention.

Julia Dunning
Lead Vocals
Julia has been making music as long as she can remember. Born into an artistic family from a tiny town in Southwest Louisiana, she has been singing since she was two years old. She and her four sisters, along with their parents, often sang locally with an audience of adoring friends and family for various occasions, and the girls all made their debuts in Hackberrys First UPC. Though Julias professional musical resume is short, her talent soars tall, ignited by the searing soulfulness of her voice and the power of her obvious passion for music. Impressed by such artists as Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Janis Joplin, Irma Thomas, Bonnie Raitt, and a host of others, Julia strives for a performance that is authentic and tells a story. She believes that if all she ever does is makes one persons bad day a little more tolerable, then shes done what she was put here to do.

Gary Huntsman
Lead Guitar
The Lone Texan in the group, guitarist Gary Huntsman was born in Houston and raised in Baytown. He started his notable musical career in his mid-teens playing lead guitar with various bands in the late 60s. He later joined the reputable Empty Can Band, travelling and performing throughout Texas in the late 70s. Gary moved to the Ark-La-Tex in 1979 and played in a handful of well-known local bands before being snatched up by Percy Sledge as lead guitarist, touring worldwide and recording with him for 15 years. Gary was featured on Percys Live from Louisiana album, as well as the track, First You Cry on the Louisiana Swamp Stomp album. He has been heavily influenced by Billy Gibbons, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, B. B. King, Freddie King, and Peter Green of the original Fleetwood Mac. Gary lives and breathes his motto with an unmistakable ring to every touch of the string, Lifes too short for bad tone.

Bill Allen
Bass and Vocals
Bassist Bill Allen has two degrees in music, but tries not to let that be a handicap. Born in New Orleans, he still loves the "street music" of that city. Along with guitarist Gary Huntsman, he was a member of the "Aces", soul legend Percy Sledge's back-up band, playing keyboards, horns, and writing horn parts for the band. He has played just about every genre of music from symphonic - he was a bassoonist with the Shreveport Symphony in college - to country. But Bill feels most at home with the Soulfish Blues Band and esteems that it is the most expressive and heartfelt project that he has ever been a part of. The Soulfish crew definitely returns his sentiment several-fold.

Bruce Procell
Drums
Bruce Procell is the epitome of what all bands want and need in a drummer. Besides his well of obvious talent, Bruce has enough energy to power a small fleet of motor vehicles. Hailing from Zwolle, Louisiana, his lifetime of experience includes everything from mainstream, hard-hitting Southern Rock to folk-style Outlaw Country, with an impressive resume of assemblies. Bruces understanding of tempo, meter, and dynamics, as well as appropriate volume, are one of the major reasons the band can excite a crowd without feeling the need to deafen them in order to do so. He can be seen gigging around the Ark-La-Tex with some other local acts when not working with the group, but hes most content with his friends and bandmates of the Soulfish Blues Band.
